Technical Operations Manager
Salary Range $75,000-$115,000
The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of HVAC leadership experience that is project, technical and management-focused in a commercial and industrial application.
The Technical Operations Manager will work with the senior management team to oversee operational strategy managing the professional technicians and ensuring that work is executed profitably and on time. This position routinely works directly with the technicians, dispatch personnel, and senior management to ensure customer satisfaction while meeting company goals and objectives.
We are looking for a candidate that is passionate about HVAC, problem solving and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of HVAC service technicians and installers, fostering a culture of safety, quality and accountability.
- Interview, hire, and train technicians in partnership with senior management to meet workload demands.
- Responsible for technicians’ performance appraisals, reviews and for setting improvement goals in partnership with senior management per company requirements.
- Maintains communication with vendors and factory personnel concerning warranty issues, product recall notices, operational problems with products, premature failures and other issues as they apply to products and equipment sold and serviced.
- Monitors service vehicles to ensure they are being maintained while in an acceptable condition to allow technicians to efficiently work out of the vehicle, and that an adequate inventory of parts and materials are maintained.
- In partnership with Lead Technician/Field Supervisor, establish and maintain a regular training program to ensure that technicians are properly trained on the latest service techniques and safety procedures for equipment and general working conditions.
- Work with Senior Construction Manager and Lead Technician/Field Supervisor to meet company goals and objectives.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient operations.
- Communicate regularly with all departments, including dispatch, finance, and senior management to ensure that scheduling and project management is efficient and profitable, meeting company expectations and goals.
- Technical Expertise
- Lead root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues and recommend system improvements or upgrades.
- Provide hands-on technical guidance and field support to technicians to resolve complex service issues.
- Generate estimates and technical proposals for contract projects, service work and commercial repairs in order to meet customers’ needs and timing expectations.
- Specifies and makes sure that required parts are ordered in a timely fashion to ensure work deadlines are met.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, environmental standards, and company policies.
- Stay current with evolving HVAC technologies, controls, and energy-efficient solutions.
- Customer & Business Development
- Manage service contracts, warranty work, and customer relationships to ensure quality delivery and client satisfaction.
- Support business growth by identifying opportunities for upgrades, retrofits, and service agreements.
- Meet company budget goals and objectives to ensure company profitability.
- Monitor service department financials, including labor utilization, materials costs, and profitability metrics.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7-10 years of HVAC experience with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory or management role in industrial/commercial service operations.
- Advanced knowledge of commercial HVAC systems.
- Proven experience overseeing service, repair, retrofits, and installation projects for industrial or large commercial facilities.
- Strong understanding of mechanical system design, electrical schematics, and control logic, including reading, interpreting, utilizing and training on manuals, schematics and control circuits related to HVAC systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills, including customer service and sales skills.
- Proficiency with service management software, project tracking, and budgeting tools.
- Technical aptitude with knowledge of local codes and an ability to use resources at hand to find solutions.
- Knowledge of industry standards including policies, procedures, billing/pricing, and general HVAC operations.
- Knowledge of and proficiency in common office applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and general software navigation. Experience using a CRM, such as Service Titan preferred.

- Personable and presentable; a top performer who can instill pride in workmanship in themself and others.
- Experience supporting company P&L goals and managing HVAC profitability.
- Able to manage and lead people working in the field and in the office.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, oral and written communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and background.
