COMMERCIAL INTERIOR DESIGN INSTRUCTOR

Seeking a Part-time Commercial Interior Design Instructor for a Private Career School, offered under an independent contractor agreement for approximately 10 hours/week.

Location: In-person at the Seattle Design Center (Hybrid delivery)

Position Overview

The Commercial Interior Design Instructor will teach Commercial Interior Design, Color Theory, and Sketching across three 10-week terms annually (Fall, Winter, Spring). This hybrid course is delivered in person in Seattle, with Portland and virtual students joining remotely.

Job Responsibilities

  • Teach and lead assigned courses, providing guidance on projects and assignments
  • Prepare class materials aligned with the approved curriculum and learning objectives
  • Evaluate and grade student work, tests, and presentations
  • Provide constructive feedback and maintain student progress reports
  • Collaborate with the Director to refine curriculum and teaching strategies
  • Maintain and improve instructional materials based on student performance and feedback
  • Stay current in industry knowledge through professional development
  • Integrate relevant technology to enhance learning

Minimum Work Experience/Qualifications

  • Five years (10,000 hours) of acceptable full or part-time equivalent interior design employment/work experience must be documented.

  • Completion of an accredited/board-approved interior design program plus two years (4,000 hours) of professional experience
  • Knowledge and application of adult learning principles
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • High attention to detail and organizational ability
  • Working knowledge of commercial design process, design principles and elements, space planning, color theory, sketching, materials, socially responsible design, and professional practice

Preferred Work Experience/Qualifications

  • Combined residential and commercial interior design experience
  • Experience in SketchUp and/ or Revit

Compensation is based on experience.
