We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant to join our team. The Commercial Lines Underwriting Assistant provides administrative and technical support to underwriters in the evaluation, submission, and processing of commercial insurance risks. This position will be responsible for a variety of underwriting and marketing duties related to placing new business and renewing current business. Duties include, but are not limited to, creating ACORD applications, rating and binding business online, quality control, and various administrative duties. This role requires strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues across departments.
Job duties:
- Assist underwriters in gathering and reviewing information required for risk evaluation and policy issuance
- Prepare quotes and policy documentation accurately and in a timely manner
- Enter and maintain data in agency management system
- Review applications and supporting documents for completeness and compliance with underwriting guidelines
- Communicate with agents, brokers, and internal departments to obtain missing information and resolve issues
- Maintain organized files in accordance with company standards
- Monitor pending items and follow up to ensure deadlines are met
- Stay up to date on company products, underwriting guidelines, and regulatory requirements
Skills
- 1–3 years of insurance experience preferred
- Basic understanding of commercial insurance products (e.g., general liability, property, workers’ compensation)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Experience with insurance or agency management systems is preferred
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload
- Customer service-oriented mindset
- Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
