Commercial Product, Design & Custom Development Intern

Overview

The Summer Intern – Commercial Product, Design & Custom Development will gain hands-on exposure to the behind-the-scenes work that goes into designing, developing, and bringing commercial flooring products to market. This role provides a unique opportunity to work across multiple teams including Commercial Design, Product Development, and Custom Solutions.

Throughout the internship, the intern will contribute to real business initiatives while learning how product strategy, design, manufacturing, and customer insights work together to deliver flooring solutions across a range of commercial markets.

This position is ideal for a student interested in design, product development, manufacturing, or business operations who is curious, collaborative, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

The intern will support multiple teams and initiatives, including:

• Assist with product development projects, including research, sample organization, documentation, and coordination across cross-functional teams.
• Support the custom product team with project tracking, documentation, and coordination for customer-specific flooring solutions.
• Help gather and organize Voice of Customer (VOC) feedback from internal stakeholders and customers to inform product development.
• Contribute to the creation or refinement of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for key product and design processes.
• Assist in documenting product specifications, development milestones, and internal workflows.
• Support preparation of materials for product reviews, internal presentations, and design discussions.
• Participate in cross-functional meetings with product, design, manufacturing, and sales teams to observe how decisions are made.
• Gain exposure to commercial flooring manufacturing processes, materials, and construction types across both hard and soft surface products.
• Assist with other team initiatives and business projects as needed.

Internship Project

In addition to supporting day-to-day team activities, the intern will be responsible for completing a capstone project during the internship. This project will focus on improving or documenting a key process within the product, design, or custom development workflow and will be presented to team leadership at the conclusion of the internship.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Industrial Design, Product Development, Business, Engineering, or a related field
• Strong curiosity and willingness to learn in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams
• Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; familiarity with design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
