Journeyman Commercial Roofer
A well-established and financially stable commercial roofing contractor in Vancouver, Washington is actively hiring an experienced Journeyman Commercial Roofer to join our growing team. This is a long-term opportunity for a skilled Journeyman Commercial Roofer who takes pride in quality workmanship, safety, and teamwork.
This role focuses heavily on low-slope single-ply membrane systems, with occasional installation of low-slope asphalt bitumen roof systems. The position requires extensive regional travel across Washington State and Oregon, including out-of-town projects lasting several months. You must demonstrate advanced technical skill, work safely under regional Pacific Northwest weather conditions, and mentor apprentices.
Journeyman Commercial Roofer Responsibilities
- Install Single-Ply Systems: Lay TPO, PVC, and EPDM membranes to strict manufacturer specifications.
- Weld and Bond: Safely and expertly use hand-held hot-air welders, automatic walk-behind heat welders, induction welding tools, and chemical bonding adhesives.
- Handle Asphalt Systems: Properly install modified bitumen and built-up roofing (BUR) systems when required.
- Apply Flashings: Seal and secure roof penetrations, curbs, walls, drains, and perimeter edge metal.
- Prep Substrates: Inspect roof decks, install vapor barriers, and fit tapered insulation/cover boards.
- Maintain Safety: Rigorously follow OSHA, WA-DOSH, and OR-OSHA strict fall protection regulations.
- Guide Apprentices: Teach trade skills, proper tool usage, and jobsite safety practices to junior crew members.
Journeyman Commercial Roofer Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 4–5 years of documented commercial roofing experience.
- Membrane Expertise: Proven mastery of single-ply installation and seam heat
- welding.
- Bitumen Knowledge: Basic competency with torch-applied, cold-applied, or hot mopped bitumen systems.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders safely, and work
- outdoors in regional weather.
- Tools: Own standard hand tools of the commercial roofing trade.
- Travel: Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation.
- Pre-Employment Screening: Must pass a background check and a drug
- screening test.
Preferred Skills
- Certified in major manufacturer systems (e.g., Carlisle, Holcim/Elevate, GAF, Johns Manville).
- Active OSHA 10-hour or 30-hour construction safety certification card.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and architectural roof
plans.
Compensation & Benefits
- Base Pay: $45.00 – $60.00 per hour.
- Prevailing Wage: Higher pay rates available depending on specific public works
- project locations.
