Commercial / Scientific Diver and At-Sea Biologist

At-Sea Biologist Work: At-sea monitors collect scientific, management, regulatory compliance, and economic data, onboard commercial fishing vessels with a focus on discarded catch. These data are needed for the management and monitoring of the annual catch limits and groundfish sectors. Monitors help ensure sustainable fisheries in U.S. waters by:

  • Collecting data on what’s caught and what’s discarded by U.S. commercial fishing vessels and operators;
  • Tracking bycatch of marine mammals, sea turtles, and other protected species;
  • Gathering critical biological and ecological information on catch and bycatch;
  • Supporting fisheries safety and compliance regulations.

Commercial / Scientific Diver Work: ADCI commercial diver certification or US Navy dive training required, in support of commercial operations, engineering investigations and scientific data collection. Divers, therefore, are usually hired for their academic and commercial skill set, with diving as a collateral duty. In support of diving services including search and recovery of items on the sea floor; underwater photography (still and video); cable installation and inspection; underwater ship's husbandry; installation, inspection, and repair of mooring and anchoring systems; installing and repairing data-collecting devices; engaging in scientific data collection and environmental conservation work; and other underwater work as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: From $20.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
