Scope- large commercial rooftop installation
A Commercial Solar Electrician installs, maintains, and troubleshoots electrical systems for commercial and industrial solar photovoltaic (PV) projects. This role focuses on high-capacity solar arrays, multi-MW systems, and complex electrical infrastructure, ensuring installations meet engineering specifications, safety standards, and code requirements.
Install, wire, and commission commercial-scale solar PV systems, including rooftop, carport, and ground-mount arrays.
Perform electrical terminations for combiners, disconnects, inverters, transformers, switchgear, and monitoring equipment.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, single-line diagrams (SLDs), and electrical schematics.
Install conduit (rigid, EMT, PVC), pull wire, and ensure proper routing and labeling.
Test, troubleshoot, and repair AC/DC circuits, inverters, and system communication networks.
Verify grounding/bonding integrity and ensure compliance with NEC, OSHA, and local AHJ requirements.
Assist with commissioning and performance testing on multi-string and multi-inverter systems.
Work with project managers, foremen, engineers, and other trades to meet project schedules.
Complete documentation, including QA/QC reports, inspections, and service logs.
Maintain safe jobsite practices and enforce electrical safety protocols.
Prior experience as an electrician or solar electrician in commercial/industrial settings.
Strong knowledge of NEC (particularly Article 690/705) and commercial electrical standards.
Ability to work with high-voltage AC/DC systems (up to 1,000–1,500V DC and 480–600V AC).
Proficiency in conduit bending, wire pulling, terminations, and equipment installation.
Capable of working outdoors, on rooftops, on lifts, or in construction environments.
Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work at heights or in confined spaces.
Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
Journeyman or Master Electrician license.
NABCEP PV Installation Professional or PV Associate certification.
Experience with string inverters, central inverters, data monitoring systems, and battery storage (BESS).
OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification.
Experience on large commercial construction sites with coordination across multiple trades.
Full-time, often with overtime depending on project deadlines.
Outdoor/rooftop environments, construction sites.
