Commis Chef (Commis I)

Job Description

A Commis I is an entry-to-junior level chef who supports senior chefs in daily kitchen operations, food preparation, and maintaining standards.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation

Prepare ingredients (cutting, chopping, marinating, portioning)

Assist in cooking dishes according to recipes and standards

Handle a specific section (e.g., hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry)

Following Instructions

Work under Chef de Partie / Sous Chef

Follow recipes, portion sizes, and presentation guidelines

Maintain consistency in taste and quality

Hygiene & Safety

Follow food safety and hygiene standards (HACCP)

Keep workstation clean and organized

Proper storage of food items (FIFO method)

Stock & Inventory

Help with receiving and storing deliveries

Monitor stock levels and report shortages

Minimize food waste

Kitchen Operations

Set up workstation before service (mise en place)

Assist during busy service periods

Ensure timely preparation of dishes
