Washington County is seeking a professional and detail-oriented Commission Assistant / Deputy Clerk to supportthe County Commission. This is a dynamic role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys working with community leaders and the public, and takes pride in keeping operations running smoothly behind the scenes.

As the first point of contact for the Commission Office, you'll play a key role in representing Washington County with professionalism, discretion, and exceptional customer service. From coordinating meetings and preparing official records to assisting with county programs and supporting elected officials, this position offers the opportunity to make a direct impact in local government.

What You'll Do:

  • Serve as the front-line contact for the County Commission Office by greeting visitors, answering phones, and directing inquiries
  • Act as a Deputy County Clerk, maintaining and preserving official County Commission records and proceedings
  • Prepare agendas, meeting packets, minutes, correspondence, and confidential documents
  • Coordinate meetings, travel arrangements, reservations, and scheduling for administrative leadership
  • Support county boards, committees, and special districts by tracking appointments, vacancies, and compliance requirements
  • Respond to public records requests under GRAMA
  • Assist with county-wide programs and special projects
  • Maintain professional communication with elected officials, community leaders, and the public
  • Provide administrative and clerical support across multiple county functions

What We're Looking For:

Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented
  • Skilled in professional communication and customer service
  • Comfortable handling confidential information with discretion
  • Adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and office technology
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a government setting

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma plus additional training in office administration or related field OR an Associate Degree
  • Two (2) years of progressively responsible administrative or secretarial experience
  • Strong typing accuracy and speed
  • Experience with local government operations is a plus
