New Build Commissioning Engineer – Gas & ASHP

We are looking for an experienced New Build Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team, working across new build residential developments to commission and hand over gas heating systems and air source heat pumps.

This is a great opportunity for a practical, technically minded engineer with strong fault-finding skills and experience working in new build environments.

The Role

As a New Build Commissioning Engineer, you will be responsible for commissioning, testing, fault finding, and signing off heating and hot water systems across new build properties. You will work on a range of systems including gas boilers, cylinders, controls, underfloor heating, radiators, and ASHP installations.

You will ensure systems are safe, efficient, compliant, and ready for handover to the client or homeowner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission gas boilers, ASHP systems, cylinders, heating controls, and associated heating systems.
  • Carry out pre-commissioning checks, system testing, balancing, and performance verification.
  • Diagnose and resolve faults on gas and ASHP installations.
  • Review drawings, schematics, specifications, and commissioning documentation.
  • Complete commissioning sheets, test records, benchmark certificates, and handover paperwork.
  • Ensure all works are completed in line with current regulations, manufacturer instructions, and company standards.
  • Liaise with site managers, project managers, subcontractors, clients, and customer care teams.
  • Support handovers, demonstrations, and homeowner guidance where required.
  • Maintain high standards of health and safety on site.

About You

You will be an experienced heating engineer or commissioning engineer with a strong background in new build housing or residential developments. You will be confident working independently, able to manage your workload across multiple plots or sites, and comfortable dealing with site teams and clients.

Requirements

  • Experience commissioning gas heating systems in new build properties.
  • Experience with air source heat pumps, or a strong willingness to develop further in this area.
  • Strong knowledge of heating systems, hot water cylinders, controls, pipework, UFH, and radiators.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to read drawings and understand system layouts.
  • Good understanding of compliance, safety, and quality standards.
  • Strong communication and paperwork skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Essential Qualifications

  • Valid Gas Safe registration.
  • CCN1 and relevant domestic gas appliance qualifications.
  • Unvented hot water qualification.
  • Relevant ASHP, heat pump, or low temperature heating qualification desirable.
  • G3 qualification desirable, if not covered separately by unvented certification.
