Communications and Office Director

Position Summary

The Communications and Office Director plays a vital role in the life of Aldersgate United Methodist Church (AUMC) by fostering connection, communication, and collaboration. This position ensures smooth daily operations of the church office while also leading creative and strategic communication that shares the story of God at work through Aldersgate. The role is both relational and organizational—supporting staff, volunteers, and the congregation so that ministry can flourish.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Senior Pastor, staff, and Church Council to support the church’s mission, vision, and ministries.
  • Lead and coordinate the communications efforts of AUMC’s mission and ministries supporting administrative and missional leaders of the congregation.
  • Participate in Sunday morning worship with a focus on building relationships and developing partners in the church's communications efforts.
  • Produce or manage the production of high-quality media to engage the church congregation and the broader community.
  • Branding - set the tone for the church’s organization voice in written communications, ensuring consistent messaging across platforms.
  • Website - maintain AUMC’s website and Aldersgate Weekday School Ministries website, making updates and changes as needed.
  • Email Newsletter - write, collect, and edit content for newsletter, create or choose design elements, and distribute on a regular basis
  • Bulletin - create and publish bulletins for weekly church services, special services, and funerals
  • Social Media - regularly create and publish digital communication assets across social media channels
  • Blog - regularly share stories of God’s activity in and through AUMC’s people and ministries.
  • Video - manage digital assets, including the online worship livestream page, making sure services and order of worship are available to viewers.
  • Screen Graphics - prepare and distribute worship and announcement slides.

  • Manage AUMC’s church calendar.
  • Accurately update the calendar with meetings, services and events.
  • Manage the Event Space Reservation process.
  • Work and coordinate with calendar stakeholders (staff, congregational leaders and community leaders) to appropriately manage deadlines and resolve priority and space conflicts.
  • Serve as a welcoming presence to visitors in the office, and assist with inquiries both in person and over the phone.
  • Collaborate with Office volunteers to meet operational needs and assist with special projects.
  • Manage the church’s prayer list, ensuring updates are made and the list is available for the congregation.
  • Monitor, manage, and respond to the church’s Admin and Info email accounts and related Google Drives.
  • Coordinate and manage AUMC columbarium-related requests.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities, as agreed with the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, marketing, or office administration (church or nonprofit setting preferred)
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, Meet, etc), Microsoft Office, basic understanding of web design and Canva
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills, with the ability to work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment
  • Commitment to the mission and ministry of AUMC, with familiarity of Wesleyan/Methodist tradition.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and communicate statuses to maintain operational efficiency
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Preferred Technical Skills: Adobe Creative Suite, Video Editing, Sound Editing, Planning Center, Website management

Supervision, Evaluation and Terms of Appointment

  • Supervised by Senior Pastor
  • Evaluated at 90 days, then annually thereafter, by the Senior Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee
  • Hours: Full-time Position

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: $48,000.00 - $52,000.00 per year
