Job Objective: The Communications Coordinator is responsible for bringing the district's story to life. By capturing and sharing the voices, achievements, and experiences across our schools, this role helps connect our community to the district's strategic vision and priorities. The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Assistant Superintendent, who provides strategic direction for community engagement, branding, and messaging priorities.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation & Storytelling

Develop, write, and edit district communications including newsletters, website content, press releases, and internal updates

Highlight student, staff, and district achievements through compelling storytelling

Ensure all communications reflect the district's brand, voice, and strategic priorities
Digital & Social Media Management

Manage and maintain district social media accounts (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, X)

Create and schedule engaging content, including graphics, photos, and videos

Monitor engagement and respond appropriately to comments and messages

Ensure timely updates to the district website
School & Department Support

Collaborate with building principals and department leaders to promote events, initiatives, and key information

Provide guidance and tools to improve communication at the building level

Support consistency of messaging across schools and departments
Community Engagement Support

Assist in promoting district events, forums, and engagement opportunities (e.g., community conversations, student showcases)

Help coordinate communication efforts tied to district initiatives and partnerships

Support crisis communication efforts as directed
Media & Public Relations

Draft and distribute press releases and media advisories

Maintain positive relationships with local media outlets

Track media coverage and compile communication reports
Brand Management

Ensure consistent use of district branding, logos, and messaging across all platforms

Support development of communication templates and style guidelines
Other Duties as Assigned

Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent in support of district priorities
Qualifications
Education & Experience
-
Prefered: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or related field, preferred

Prefered: 25 years of experience in communications, preferably in education or public sector

Understanding of current laws and regulations governing the communications of a public school district.

Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills

Proficiency in social media platforms and digital communication tools

Experience with website management systems and design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite preferred)
