Overview of the Communications & Marketing Coordinator Role

Future Generations University is seeking a Communications & Marketing Coordinator, a position for a highly organized, creative, and self-directed professional responsible for managing and executing the organization’s day-to-day external communications and marketing efforts. This role plays a critical part in elevating the university’s visibility, strengthening engagement, and ensuring consistent, compelling messaging across all public-facing channels.

The ideal candidate is an independent thinker and proactive doer who can take ownership of projects from concept to execution. This person must be comfortable working autonomously, implementing communications strategies, generating excellent-quality visual and written content, coordinating campaigns with cross-functional teammates, and ensuring initiatives move forward with minimal oversight.

Reporting Structure for this Position

This position reports directly to the Director of Strategic Communications and supports Academics and Community Engagement staff.

Key Position Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day management, organization, and execution of FGU’s external communications initiatives and marketing content.
  • Generate, write, edit, and manage content across multiple platforms which may include blogs, newsletters, social media, email campaigns, website content, webinars, speaker series or podcasts, and digital marketing.
  • Managing and Organizing all University communication assets, including archiving and organizing existing and new digital content, and organizing and digitizing institutional library materials.
  • Develop and implement creative communications and marketing strategies that support FGU priorities, mission, student engagement, community outreach, and recruitment efforts.
  • Independently take projects from conceptualization to completion with timely execution, quality work, and alignment with the departmental goals.
  • Maintain a consistent and engaging institutional voice across all public-facing communications channels.
  • Own and manage recurring communications programming, which may include: social media campaigns, eBlasts and eNewsletters, webinars, podcast-style discussions, reading or speaker series, or other initiatives as assigned.
  • Coordinate and deliver two (2) signature communications content series (Fall/Spring)
  • Manage logistical and technical aspects of virtual programming across divisions, including scheduling, platform setup, livestream coordination, presentation preparation, recording, troubleshooting, and program follow-up communications; ensuring that events and post-event assets are delivered professionally and on time.
  • Analyze participation, engagement, and performance metrics for implemented communications campaigns programming efforts, use the data to evaluate effectiveness and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Create high-quality visual and multimedia content, including graphics, promotional materials, short-form videos, photography, and other brand-specific assets.
  • Edit and produce video content for social media, YouTube, webinars, promotional campaigns, and other university initiatives.
  • Capture and develop content highlighting community engagement activities, partnerships, outreach events, student experiences, faculty and staff accomplishments, and institutional initiatives.
  • Organize and manage the University’s YouTube and digital media libraries in a clear, searchable, and user-friendly structure to improve the long-term accessibility of archived content.
  • Monitor and update the University website as needed for accuracy, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Manage the faculty and employee profiles on the website, including biographies and headshots.
  • Manage the Community page with updated/current events and content.
  • Assist with content updates and basic functionality within website platforms such as WordPress.
  • Attend outreach events, university functions, and community engagement activities to capture content, support communications efforts, and represent the university as a communications liaison, as directed.
  • Develop communications materials to strengthen partnerships with external stakeholders.
  • Support student recruitment initiatives through storytelling, digital marketing, organic and paid advertising campaigns, and prospective student communications.
  • Responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining a strong attention to detail and producing high-quality communications materials while meeting deadlines.
  • Will work collaboratively with various departments to meet communication needs of the university at large, while maintaining the ability to operate independently and proactively.
  • Identify opportunities for increased audience growth and engagement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Capabilities

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media, public relations, english, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2-4 years of professional experience in communications, marketing, digital media, content development, or related work, preferred.
  • Exceptional written, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to create compelling high-quality content for a variety of audiences across multiple platforms.
  • Strong graphic design and video editing skills for promotional, educational, and social media content.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple projects from conceptualization through execution with excellent-quality outputs.
  • Capable of functioning effectively in an independent environment and on a team.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, time management, and presentation skills.
  • Self-directed, reliable, collaborative, proactive, and mission-driven.
  • Ability to comply with all applicable policies, procedures, laws and regulations.

Compensation & Benefits

  • The salary range for this position is $50,000 - 55,000 per year, plus benefits. Actual salary will be commensurate with the experience, skills and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position.

  • This position is expected to meet 1840 hours of productivity per year, with 832 productivity hours worked in-office at the North Mountain Campus, located at 400 Road Less Travelled, Franklin, WV 26807. This position has the ability to determine their preferred holiday and time off schedule, Flexible Time Off (FTO).

Location & Hours

The successful candidate would work Monday through Friday in our main office (outside Franklin, West Virginia) from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm with an occasional need to work irregular hours and/or weekends. We will also consider a hybrid-remote work arrangement for candidates who live within a three-hour driving radius of Franklin, such as in Washington DC. If hybrid, the candidate would need to be available to work 8-12 days in-office per month; lodging is available for multi-day stays.

Physical Demands

This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions in both office settings and field environments as necessary. This position may include extended time periods of sitting, working at a computer, and participation in virtual and in-person meetings as necessary. This role requires the ability to occasionally travel, both domestically and internationally as required. This may include travel to locations that are not accessible by public transportation, thus the individual must be able to meet the travel requirements with or without reasonable accommodation. The position may be required to occasionally lift and/or carry materials weighing up to 20-25 lbs.
