In this role, you aren’t just posting on social media: you are helping us build a narrative of courage and resilience. You will work closely with our development, legal and outreach teams to turn our impactful work into inspiring stories, manage a fun and talented team of interns, and help execute our most exciting annual events.

Duties & Responsibilities

Leadership & Project Management:

  • Event Execution: Lead the end-to-end communications strategy for major events (Gala, Ramadan, Muslim Advocacy Day).
  • Digital Governance: Maintain and update the CAIR-NY website and Social Media Policy SOPs to ensure brand consistency and community safety.
  • Team Management: Recruit, onboard, and fully manage an intern team (up to 8 individuals), delegating tasks across design, social media, and research.
  • Mission Alignment: Ensure all public-facing content adheres to CAIR’s core values and legal standards, serving as a final “quality control” check before ED review.

Media Relations & Rapid Response

  • PR & Journalism: Draft high-impact press releases and coordinate news conferences on tight deadlines, specifically focusing on campus repression, civil rights litigation, and hate crime response.
  • Media Outreach: Proactively pitch stories to local, national and international outlets and manage a database of journalists and influencers for strategic coverage.
  • National Alignment: Coordinate with CAIR-National on rapid-response PRs while maintaining NYC-specific chapter autonomy and branding.

Multimedia & Digital Growth

  • Content Creation: Produce high-resolution multimedia content, including community alert graphics, and donor-centric email sequences.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Monitor digital KPIs, providing monthly reports on social media growth, engagement trends, and website traffic to the board.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in communications, Political Science, International Relations, Public Relations, Journalism, or related fields. Masters Preferred.
  • Experience: 2–4 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a non-profit or legal advocacy environment.
  • Managerial Prowess: Proven ability to manage teams and complex project timelines.
  • Technical Toolbelt: * Platforms: Squarespace, EveryAction (or similar CRM), Microsoft Teams, and Slack.
  • Design: Expert-level Canva, Capcut, and working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud (Premiere, Photoshop, Illustrator).
  • Social: Mastery of Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, X (Twitter), and LinkedIn analytics.
  • Writing: Exceptional ability to copy-edit and write for different audiences: from legal “calls to action” to empathetic fundraising appeals.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 (dependent on experience).
