Communications Department - Student Employee

Summary:
The Communications Student Employee will assist in creating and implementing communication strategies to enhance the department's outreach and engagement efforts. This position provides hands-on experience in content creation, social media management, and public relations while fostering career-ready skills in communication, adaptability, and digital literacy.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Assist in creating and scheduling social media content across various platforms to engage target audiences.

  • Write, edit, and proofread content for newsletters, press releases, and other communications materials.

  • Collaborate with team members to develop effective communication campaigns that align with department goals.

  • Monitor and analyze the performance of communication efforts, using tools like social media analytics and surveys to inform future strategies.

  • Support event promotion by designing flyers, drafting announcements, and coordinating outreach efforts.

  • Help ensure all materials align with Maryville's branding and communication standards.

  • Assist with photography, videography, and editing for department projects.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and their best practices (e.g., Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn).

  • Experience with design tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, or Illustrator is a plus.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Attention to detail and a creative mindset.

  • A passion for communication and a desire to learn and grow in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic knowledge of video editing software is preferred but not required.
Skills Required:
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
Position Pay: $15/hr
Hours per week: 10 hrs
Start Date: 08/01/2026
End Date: 05/01/2027

NOTE: Applicants must be work study eligible and have a work study award in their financial aid package to apply for this position.
