Position Overview

Carolina Core is seeking a strategic, detail-oriented, and highly skilled Communications Manager to lead written communications across Carolina Core FC and future sports and entertainment properties. This role is responsible for shaping the organization’s public voice — driving clarity, consistency, and connection across PR, email, website content, text campaigns, and all external messaging.

This person will build and manage communication channels that deepen fan engagement, strengthen community connections, support revenue initiatives, and elevate the Carolina Core brand. They will also oversee matchday media operations for Carolina Core FC and manage the Social Media Manager to ensure aligned messaging across platforms.

This individual is a highly skilled communicator — someone who can distill complex ideas into clear, compelling messages and craft narratives that resonate, inspire, and drive meaningful action.

Key Responsibilities

Communications Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and execute an integrated communications strategy across PR, email, website, and text channels for Carolina Core FC and future sports & entertainment properties.
  • Own the brand voice, messaging standards, and narrative direction that reflect the broader Carolina Core identity.
  • Manage and mentor the Social Media Manager to ensure aligned messaging and tone across all platforms.
  • Partner with marketing, partnerships, merchandise, operations, and community teams to ensure unified communication across the organization.
  • Provide strategic guidance on communication, best practices, and message development.

Public Relations & Media Relations

  • Lead PR efforts, including press releases, media advisories, story pitches, and crisis communication across all properties.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with local and regional media outlets, journalists, bloggers, and influencers.
  • Identify and pitch compelling storylines that highlight players, coaches, community initiatives, and organizational impact.
  • Respond to media inquiries professionally and promptly.
  • Maintain and regularly update media lists and outreach strategies.
  • Support partners and sponsor messaging through coordinated communication efforts.

Matchday Media Operations

  • Oversee all matchday media operations for Carolina Core FC and other events, including press box setup, credentials, media check-in, photo marshaling, and broadcaster support.
  • Prepare and distribute game notes, match previews, media packets, and post-match recaps.
  • Coordinate pre-match and post-match press conferences, mixed zone access, and all media availability moments.
  • Provide timely and accurate communications throughout matchday.
  • Maintain historical and season-long statistical records for media and internal use.
  • Collaborate with the Social Media Manager to ensure real-time matchday messaging aligns with communication priorities.

Email Marketing & Direct-to-Fan Communication

  • Own all email communications for Carolina Core FC and future properties, including newsletters, ticketing promotions, merchandise campaigns, matchday updates, and community features.
  • Build segmented and targeted email campaigns to increase personalization, relevance, and conversion.
  • Use CRM data to develop automated workflows, fan journeys, and behavior-driven communication streams.
  • Coordinate with ticketing, partnerships, and marketing to support revenue-driving initiatives across properties.
  • Oversee text messaging campaigns for alerts, reminders, and fan engagement.
  • Track performance, optimize content, and test messaging to increase engagement and results.

Website Content & Messaging

  • Manage updates to the Carolina Core FC website and support additional property sites as they launch.
  • Write and edit content for news stories, bios, ticketing pages, partner features, and community initiatives.
  • Ensure all web content reflects the Carolina Core brand identity and supports ongoing campaigns.
  • Collaborate with marketing and creative teams to maintain a cohesive, accurate, and engaging online presence.

Content Development & Brand Narrative

  • Create high-quality written content including press releases, feature stories, scripts, speeches, talking points, email copy, and announcements.
  • Work closely with creative teams (photo, video, design) to shape campaign narratives and storytelling direction.
  • Guide messaging for major announcements, match promotions, partnership initiatives, and community programs.
  • Develop narratives that support both immediate communication needs and long-term brand positioning.

Analytics, Reporting & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor communication KPIs across email, PR, website, and text channels.
  • Deliver regular performance reports with insights and strategic recommendations.
  • Use data to refine communication strategy, enhance clarity, and improve measurable outcomes.
  • Apply insights to support business goals across all Carolina Core properties.

Qualifications

  • BA/BS in Public Relations, Communications, Marketing, Journalism, English, or related field.
  • 2–4+ years of experience in communications, PR, media relations, or integrated marketing.
  • Experience in sports, live entertainment, or event-driven environments preferred.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to craft compelling narratives that connect with fans, partners, and media — and drive action.
  • Demonstrated experience managing media relations and securing editorial coverage.
  • Experience coordinating communications for live events or game days.
  • Proficiency with email marketing tools (Mailchimp, HubSpot, Constant Contact) and CRM systems.
  • Experience working in website Content Management systems, such as Wordpress, Squarespace, etc. Familiarity with Content Management system utilized by MLS preferred.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to perform under pressure in fast-paced environments.
  • Understanding of soccer culture or live-events is helpful but not required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Professional, confidential, team-first demeanor.

Work Environment & Location

This is a full-time, in-person role based in High Point, North Carolina. Matchday and event attendance is regularly required.
