We are seeking a skilled and proactive Communications Manager to plan, develop, and implement comprehensive internal and external communication strategies that enhance stakeholder engagement and promote transparency.

    Job Summary

    The Communications Manager plays a critical role in overseeing the District's communications programs and projects, identifying opportunities and challenges, and developing effective strategies to communicate with various stakeholders. This position will also manage content creation for digital platforms, including the website and social media, and provide support for public relations, marketing, and community outreach initiatives.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Internal Communications:
      Keep approximately 2,400 employees informed through the production of a high-quality weekly e-newsletter and other internal communication strategies.
    • External Communications: Keep families and patrons informed about District happenings through the production of a high-quality monthly e-newsletter and other external communication strategies.
    • Social Media Management: Manage the District's official social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn) and maintain high engagement on all platforms.

    • Program and Event Coordination:
      Oversee and manage flagship events and programs such as Howell of Fame, Senior Pals, PTO Presidents Forum, Family Learning Series, Citizens Roundtables and others.
    • Project Management: Work with individual schools and department leaders to communicate important information and promote initiatives of interest to the broader FHSD community.
    • Media Relations: Serve as a liaison between the District and news media, preparing press releases, responding to media inquiries, and maintaining positive relationships with local media personnel.
    • Crisis Communication: Serve as a key point person on the District's Crisis Response Team and manage emergency communications in absence of the Chief Communications Officer.
    • Website Management: Maximize the use of the District website and other electronic platforms and apps, assisting with content updates and providing training to school staff.
    • Meeting Participation: Attend meetings, workshops, and seminars to gather and convey necessary information for communication initiatives.
    • Personnel Functions: Conduct personnel functions such as approving time cards and providing daily supervision of team members to enhance productivity and meet objectives.
    • Document Preparation: Contribute to a high-performing and efficient team by following established standard operating procedures (SOPs) and maintaining / updating as needed.
    • Data Management: Maintain a variety of manual and electronic files and records for reference and compliance with regulatory requirements.

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Education:
      Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, education, public relations, or a related field (Master's preferred).
    • Experience: Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility, preferably in journalism, communications, education, public relations or project management.
    • Skills: Proficient in crafting impactful narratives, utilizing strategic thinking and judgement skills on a daily basis, operating standard office equipment, and managing projects effectively. Creative skills in graphic design, photography and AI are preferred.
    • Knowledge: Strong understanding of public school programs, public relations, and communication practices; excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Abilities: Ability to manage multiple tasks, work collaboratively with diverse groups, and adapt to changing priorities and situations.
