The Marketing & Communications Department at St. Catherine University invites applications for a full-time Communications Manager position.
This position will oversee the communications strategy across all of the channels owned and managed by the Office of Communications, including community emails, newsletters, social media, media relations, the website, and University publications. This role is responsible for ensuring strategic messaging and brand consistency, including visual look and feel, across messaging and overall content.
The Communications Manager works in tandem with the Director of Communications and Art Director to ensure strategic alignment across activities and messaging for the University, operational effectiveness, and strong ROI. This person also works cross-functionally with internal partners to highlight University news, promote academic programs, and build engagement with our audiences through our various communications channels and publications. This includes providing strategic counsel and planning to internal partners to reach their target audiences.
This position plays a key role in content development, acting as managing editor of the St. Catherine University news site, overseeing other members of the Communications team, and acting as assignment editor for newsworthy events and initiatives, ensuring timely, thoughtful and thorough coverage.
The Communications Manager builds relationships with and provides strategic counsel on public relations issues, working with internal and external sources to identify and place news stories with local, regional and targeted media as part of comprehensive internal communications strategies for a range of University clients. This role develops tools and resources that supports partners across the University to share stories of success, position University spokespersons as subject matter experts, and engage key stakeholders.
Major duties include:
- Provide leadership, vision, and direction to team and clients.
- Manage editorial team, including students and freelancers.
- Develop and maintain strong, positive working relationships with University faculty, staff, senior leaders and administrators.
- Create an environment that supports collaboration, high-quality work products, and creativity.
- Develop content calendar to align with and support other communications activities.
- Work collaboratively with communications team to strategically integrate and align communications efforts.
- Develop content for website, email, newsletters, and other communications as needed.
- Help manage and disseminate key internal communications pieces through the appropriate vehicles as identified when working with internal partners.
- Assign as well as write news releases, bylined articles, e-newsletters and social media content.
- Implement a comprehensive media strategy to enhance the University’s reputation, brand awareness and thought leadership.
- Lead coordinated efforts to generate media coverage across all areas of the University.
- Stay up to date on relevant topics and issues in order to position University subject matter experts and research in stories and trends as they occur.
- Assist with crisis management and negative communications
- Maintain severe weather notifications plan and execute communications as needed with multiple departments across campus.
