Communications & PR Manager - Egypt

American Research Center in Egypt (ARCE) | Cairo, Egypt (Garden City) | Full-time

For more than 75 years, ARCE has supported scholarship on Egyptian history and culture, conserved heritage sites, awarded fellowships, and connected American and Egyptian research communities. We’re growing — new headquarters in Garden City, an expanding Cairo team, and a renewed focus on donor engagement — and we’re looking for a senior communicator to help tell that story to the world.

About the Role

You’ll lead ARCE’s communications function from our Cairo office, reporting directly to the Executive Director, with three core areas of responsibility: brand voice and digital presence, press and media relations, and donor and member engagement. You’ll supervise a Communications Associate and a Graphic Designer.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage arce.org (WordPress), social channels, and email marketing via EveryAction
• Own ARCE’s press function — write and place releases, pitch stories to U.S. and Egyptian outlets (NPR, Smithsonian, National Geographic, Chronicle of Philanthropy, and more)
• Execute donor and member communications: monthly newsletter, year-end appeals, case for support, stewardship reports

What We’re Looking For

• 5+ years in communications and PR, with nonprofit fundraising or donor engagement experience
• Fluent English and Arabic (written and spoken)
• Proven U.S. media placements and AP-style writing
• WordPress and CRM/email platform experience (EveryAction, Mailchimp, Raiser’s Edge, or similar)
• Strong people management and cross-time-zone project management skills
• Legal authorization to live and work in Egypt

Bonus: prior U.S. experience, established U.S. media networks, familiarity with Egypt or cultural heritage.

The Setup

The office is in Garden City (3–4 days on-site), with staggered hours to overlap with U.S. Eastern Time. Annual travel to the U.S. for the ARCE Annual Meeting. Salary commensurate with experience; full benefits package.
