COMMUNICATIONS PROGRAM COORDINATOR – CONTENT & WRITING
Position Description
The Communications Program Coordinator – Content & Writing plays a central role in shaping and delivering written communications for the West Virginia Office of Energy. This position is responsible for developing clear, accurate, and engaging content across multiple platforms, including social media, press releases, website copy, reports, and public-facing materials.
Working under the direction of the Communications Manager, with additional guidance from the Director as needed, this role supports strategic messaging efforts that communicate the Office’s programs, funding opportunities, and impact to stakeholders, partners, and the public.
Essential Duties
● Draft and edit written content for social media platforms, press releases, website updates, newsletters, fact sheets, and other communications materials
● Identify opportunities to highlight and promote the Office’s initiatives, funding programs, and project outcomes through proactive content development
● Translate technical, policy, and grant-related information into accessible public-facing content
● Support the development and execution of communications plans for major initiatives, funding announcements, and program milestones
● Coordinate messaging with program staff to ensure accuracy and alignment
● Assist in maintaining and updating website content to reflect current programs, funding, and resources
● Maintain organized content calendars and documentation of communications efforts
● Serve as an internal point of contact for general communications requests
● Other duties as assigned
Expected Skills & Experience
● Demonstrated strength in professional writing, editing, and proofreading
● Ability to synthesize complex or technical information into clear, concise messaging
● Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
● Experience writing for different platforms (e.g., social media, web, press) with attention to tone and audience
● Proficiency with different platforms and applications (e.g. GoogleDrive, Microsoft Office, etc.).
● Ability to work independently while coordinating with a cross-functional team
Preferred Skills & Experience
● Background in marketing, public relations, journalism, or strategic communications
● Experience managing organizational social media accounts
● Experience working with grant-funded programs, government agencies, or public-sector communications
● Understanding of analytics tools to measure engagement and reach
Desired Education
● Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, English, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
