Stark Library, based in Canton, OH, is looking for a Communications Specialist to join its highly productive and quality-oriented Marketing & communications team! This role will be based at our Main Library headquarters in thriving downtown Canton, just steps from the Civic Center and a number of local amenities.
As the Communications Specialist, you would be responsible for content creation across all channels and platforms, including social media. The successful candidate will have excellent writing skills, demonstrated fluency in content creation across social media platforms, the ability to problem-solve and apply new learning, and strong customer service skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

Produces graphics, layouts, or written content for physical materials including marketing pieces, print collateral, reports, templates, merchandising displays, and signage as assigned.

Produces graphics, layouts, or written content for digital platforms including website, ILS, digital signage, and mobile apps as assigned.

Maintains brand and identity standards in all tasks assigned.

Produces graphics and written content for internal communications.

Responds to requests for marketing, publicity, and communication tasks from Library agencies.

Responds to requests to update and reproduce print collateral [via in-house document center or vendors].

Responds to requests to advise staff on communications best practices and identity standards.

Organizes and coordinates content and documents on the internal staff portal.

Coordinates and creates content for the library’s social media presence.

Develops effective communications for employees regarding organizational announcements.

Assists staff members and internal committees with communications related to internal offerings, announcements, and events.

Assists in department objectives to gather, review, and act on relevant analytics.

Assists in department objectives for process improvement, documentation, and standards creation.

Stays current on communications tools, technology, and best practices.

May train Library staff or volunteers.

May serve on library committees as needed.

Demonstrated familiarity with principles, practices, methods, and materials of communications is required.

Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suites is required.

Proficiency in MS Office [Outlook, Excel, Word] or similar software is required. Relevant business management systems such as general ledger, HRIS, CRM, etc. is preferred.
Education and Experience

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Arts or a related field or equivalent work experience is required. Master’s degree is preferred.

Certifications or licensure: Ohio drivers’ license and ability to maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Library’s liability insurance carrier is required.

Years of relevant experience: 1-3 years is required.

Experience working with all levels within an organization is required.

Experience in public libraries or public-sector organizations is preferred.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

The library environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices, which includes the need for general safe workplace practices with office equipment and computers, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate.

This position is performed in an office setting although some off-site meetings in various settings occur.

Work is generally completed on weekdays and during traditional office hours (e.g., 8am-5pm). There will be the occasional need to attend meetings or events and/or respond to critical situations outside of this schedule, including before or after normal Library days and hours of operation.

Employees must be able to lift light objects [less than 20 pounds] and carry them short distances [20 feet or less].

Employees must be able to remain in a seated position for extended periods of time while performing a variety of tasks.

Employees must be able to perform repetitive hand, arm, and body movements, including typing and/or lifting books, on a continuous basis.

Some travel by personal automobile and a valid State of Ohio driver’s license along with the ability to maintain a driving record that is satisfactory to the Library’s liability insurance carrier is required. Occasional overnight travel may also be required.
