Job Title: Communications Specialist

Employment Type: Full-Time, Salaried Position

Reports To: Director of Communications and Engagement

Position Overview: The Communications Specialist plays a key role in shaping and sharing the voice of Commonwealth-Parkville School. This position is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications that reflect CPS’s mission, values, and college-preparatory focus. This role supports internal and external communications, marketing, branding, and community engagement efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Director of Communications in developing compelling content including copywriting, storytelling, graphic design, photography, and short‑form video editing for print and digital publications such as press releases, brochures, and promotional materials.
  • Execute the department’s communication strategy to promote academic programs, student achievements, and community events.
  • Manage and update the CPS website, social media platforms, and pushpages.
  • Capture photos and videos at events and oversee the review, organization, and strategic use of visual assets.
  • Oversee projects in Trello or other project management platforms, maintaining detailed logs and timelines.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to highlight student success stories, college acceptances, and school milestones.
  • Support enrollment and advancement initiatives through targeted marketing campaigns and storytelling.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all communication channels.
  • Promote school events, open houses, and parent engagement initiatives.
  • Develop and execute content calendars, marketing campaigns, and advertising strategies.· Monitor analytics and engagement metrics and adjust strategies based on performance data and feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and Engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

Education Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field. 2–4+ years of professional experience in communications, preferably in education or mission‑driven organizations, or a combination of education and experience managing professional social media accounts, content strategy, or brand management.

Other Skills and Qualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both English and Spanish, with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Proficiency with digital tools including website Content Management Systems (CMS) and email marketing platforms.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of major platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok, and YouTube) and their algorithms.
  • Analytics: Ability to interpret performance data using tools such as Google Analytics, Meta/Facebook Insights, and social media listening platforms to measure engagement, reach, and ROI.
  • Familiarity with graphic design and media tools such as Adobe Illustrator, Canva, Photoshop, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, or Adobe Premiere.
  • Strong content creation skills including copywriting, storytelling, photography, graphic design, and short‑form video editing.
  • Creativity and the ability to develop unique, engaging, and on‑brand content.
  • Adaptability and the ability to stay current with rapidly changing trends and platform updates; flexibility to support communications needs beyond traditional business hours when necessary.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Professional and proactive work ethic with keen attention to detail and brand consistency.
  • Excellent collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, Outlook, and survey tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously while establishing clear priorities.
  • Confidentiality: Maintains discretion and protects confidential organizational information in all communications, documents, and interactions.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

The Communications Specialist works in a collaborative educational setting, typically within Commonwealth-Parkville School (CPS). The role involves regular use of computers and design software, as well as interaction with faculty, staff, and students. Physical demands include extended periods of sitting or standing, occasional lifting of materials or equipment (up to 25 pounds), and movement between departments or event spaces. Flexibility may be required for evening or weekend events and working at both campuses. A high level of creativity, attention to detail, and adaptability is essential to thrive in this role and contribute meaningfully to the school’s visual storytelling.
