ANNOUNCEMENT: Southwestern Illinois College is accepting applications for the part-time SWIC Educational Employee position of Communications Specialist.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: In accordance with the Mission and Values of Southwestern Illinois College, this position is responsible for writing and disseminating information on the academic and service programs of Southwestern Illinois College. The individual must become familiar with virtually all operations of the college in order to assist in the public information and promotional efforts of the Public Information and Marketing department. The position requires the ability to use current software applications for desktop publishing, word processing, presentation development and web and social media projects. A cross-categorical knowledge of all areas is necessary to provide coverage in the absence of another specialist.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications and familiarity with current Associated Press Style Manual required.

2. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in public relations or marketing communications or two (2) years’ experience in news writing, feature writing, Web content writing, or advertising copywriting required.

3. Experience with desktop publishing, word processing, presentation development and spreadsheet software applications such as Microsoft Office and Adobe suites required; and experience with Web content management system software preferred.

SALARY: $21.56 per hour, up to 28 hours per week.
