Community Education and Outreach Manager

Free Geek Twin Cities is a nonprofit organization dedicated to digital inclusion and environmental sustainability through technology reuse and recycling. We reduce e-waste, support community education, and promote responsible technology use.

Job Summary

The Community Education and Outreach Manager is a part of Free Geek’s management team and is responsible for developing and delivering educational programs and volunteer management strategies. Including developing and delivering educational programs, resources, and outreach efforts that advance Free Geek Twin Cities’ mission. This role leads educational initiatives, volunteer engagement, and community outreach while supervising interns and contractors. The Manager also represents the organization at events, develops communications, and fosters community partnerships.

Key Responsibilities

Educational Program Development

  • Formulate, determine, and deliver Free Geek’s Educational Program strategy and content, including development and oversight over curriculum and program budgets related to technology education, electronics recycling, technology repurposing, and community-focused tech topics.
  • Lead and supervise interns and/or contractors by, among other things, assigning tasks and managing completion of the same.
  • Research community needs and design classes that address those interests.
  • Collaborate with the Recycling and e-Waste Coordinator to develop training sessions to educate staff and volunteers on proper eWaste handling and disposal procedures.
  • Create informational materials on eWaste recycling.
  • Provide or oversee 1:1 technology instruction through through regular troubleshooting office hours.
  • Design brochures, handouts, and online resources to support education initiatives.

Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive Volunteer Management Strategy including volunteer recruitment, retention, and recognition strategies.
  • Develop budgets and track expenses related to Volunteer Engagement programs.
  • Develop orientation, training, and standardized processes to ensure a consistent and equitable volunteer experience.
  • Supervise volunteer operations and support staff in aligning volunteer contributions with organizational needs.
  • Coordinate group volunteer events to strengthen community partnerships.

Community Engagement

  • Engage directly with volunteers, donors, and customers to promote sustainable practices.
  • Organize and facilitate onsite and community-based educational events, workshops, and seminars.
  • Promote programs through newsletters, social media, and community channels.

Event Coordination

  • Plan, develop budgets for, organize, and attend outreach events to expand visibility and community support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, organizations, and stakeholders.
  • Manage event logistics, including promotion, setup, transportation, and volunteer coordination.
  • Track and report on outreach activities, measuring their impact on budgets, engagement, fundraising, and recruitment.

Additional Support

  • Contribute to grant research, applications and other grant-related initiatives and adapt responsibilities to meet grant and partnership requirements.
  • Support shared staff responsibilities, including workspace upkeep and occasional assistance with intake or store operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Type: Full-time

Base Pay: $24.00 per hour
