Community Engagement Librarian

The primary focus of this position is to promote literacy within the community through strategic outreach, engaging programming, and innovative digital initiatives. Reporting to the Library Director and working with Youth Services, Adult Services, and Digital Literacy & Outreach departments, the Community Engagement Librarian will play a pivotal role in advancing literacy efforts across Stanly County. An employee in this class oversees an assigned program area within the County Library and provides reference, information, referral, and readers’ advisory assistance to the public. Employees specialize in one programmatic area, such as adult or children’s services, and assist the Director with departmental management. Work includes analyzing and evaluating program area collections and making decisions on new purchases; instructing and supervising staff; planning and oversight of programs; participating in community outreach; delivering library programs and services; advising and assisting in activities and special events; assisting the public with specialized information needs; weeding the current collection; organizing program materials; compiling data and records; and representing the library in the community. Work requires professional judgment and initiative as well as tact and diplomacy in dealing with the patrons and the general public. Starting Salary is $56,682 or DOQ.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Work with the Youth Services department to plan and execute programming as needed for early literacy, children, and young adults. Work with the Adult Services department to plan and execute programming for adults, both in-house and through outreach efforts.Work with the Digital Literacy & Outreach department to facilitate digital literacy initiatives in line with our strategic goals and benchmarks.Partner with the Digital Navigator to plan/facilitate/assist digital literacy classes and workshops at various locations throughout the community.Evaluate program effectiveness and make adjustments to meet evolving community needs. Facilitate outreach strategies to engage diverse community members in literacy initiatives.Collaborate with library branches, local schools, daycares, community organizations, and businesses to promote literacy programs and services.Maintain the LibraryCalendar system in working with other departments to ensure all programs and events are scheduled and advertised appropriately. Manage the library's social media accounts to promote literacy programs, events, and resources.Create engaging content, including graphics, videos, and posts, to increase community engagement and participation.Monitor social media analytics and trends to optimize marketing strategies and reach target audiences effectively.Design promotional materials, including flyers, posters, brochures, and digital graphics, to cohesively promote literacy programs and events across all library branches within our system.Ensure consistency and branding standards across all promotional materials.Collaborate with library staff to develop visually appealing and informative marketing materials that resonate with the community.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Master’s degree in Library Science from an accredited ALA Library school and experience in library work at the professional level, including some experience in a particular area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
