This is a part-time, temporary position for a total of 880 paid hours. Training to become a certified Community Health Worker is provided and the hours to complete the training are included in the total 880 hours. This position works primarily at the Cambria County Library, but the live, virtual coursework could be completed remotely.
Provides information, technology assistance, and community resource navigation to the public at the library information desk. Serves as a liaison between the library, community members, and local service providers by assisting patrons in accessing information, technology, and services that support education, health, and overall well-being. Supports library operations, public programs, and community partnerships while following established policies and procedures of the Cambria County Library.
DUTIES
1. Provide public service at the information desk, assisting patrons in locating materials using the online catalog and other library resources, and operating computers, office equipment, and library technology as part of daily operations.
2. Provide hands-on assistance with computers, printers, scanners, mobile devices, email, online forms, and other technology used by the public. Assist with the operation of emerging technologies, including virtual reality, digital media tools, and other new equipment; troubleshoot problems and learn new systems as required.
3. Assist patrons in locating reliable information related to health, social services, employment, housing, education, and other community needs, and provide guidance in accessing appropriate local resources and services.
4. Establish and maintain positive working relationships with community members and collaborate with local agencies, nonprofits, and service providers to increase awareness of available programs and services.
5. May participate in outreach activities, including community events, partner meetings, and off-site programs representing the library.
6. Assist in planning and implementing displays, library programs, classes, and workshops, including technology instruction, resource education, and community wellness topics.
7. Answer telephone calls, respond to general inquiries, and direct patrons to appropriate staff or services.
8. Receive, shelve, and organize library materials and assist with the general maintenance of public service areas as needed.
9. Maintain records of outreach contacts, referrals, and program participation as required, and follow confidentiality guidelines when working with patron information.
10. Work cooperatively with library staff and community partners and perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. High school diploma required; additional education or experience in libraries, public health, social services, education, or a related field preferred.
2. Strong computer and technology skills required, including the ability to learn new software, devices, and digital tools quickly.
3. Interest in emerging technologies such as virtual reality, digital media, and interactive equipment strongly preferred.
4. Experience working with the public preferred.
5. Ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with individuals of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities.
6. Knowledge of local community resources preferred.
7. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing needs.
8. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
9. Reliable transportation may be required.
