Yakima Valley Libraries (YVL) is excited to announce an opening for a full-time (40 hours per week) Community Library Supervisor IV or V position at our downtown Yakima Central Library. Join our team and lead impactful, community-focused library services!
This Community Library Supervisor IV or V position oversees the planning, management, and evaluation of public service delivery at a large, high-traffic location, and ensures that library operations and services meet community needs. This role involves developing and leading a collaborative, adaptable team; managing individual and team performance; building strong relationships with colleagues across YVL; developing relationships with community organizations and stakeholders; and evaluating services and initiatives to meet strategic goals.
The ideal candidate for this position will enjoy creating a welcoming and safe environment for the diverse population we serve, while maintaining equal and open access to library services. Must be available during library open hours, with occasional evenings and weekends required. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred.

Required Qualifications for Community Library Supervisor IV: (Grade K, $32.88 - $43.14)
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Education, or related field

One (1) year of experience in public sector services

A valid Washington driver’s license
Required Qualifications for Community Library Supervisor V: (Grade L, $35.18 - $46.17)
- Accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science (MLS/MLIS), Master's in Education, or a related field.

Have or obtain the Washington State Professional Librarian’s Certificate

Three (3) years of experience in library services

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

- Library Operations Management: Manages and improves library operations, programs, services, and facilities to ensure optimal service delivery.
- Staff Supervision and Development: Oversees staff selection, orientation, scheduling, work assignments, professional development, and performance management.
- Strategic Vision and Collaboration: Participates in the creation and communication of the library’s vision and strategic priorities.
- Community Relationship Building: Builds and maintains relationships with community organizations and stakeholders in collaboration with the Regional Library Manager and the Community Engagement & Impact Manager.
- Staff Training and Development: Collaborates with the Public Services Manager to ensure ongoing staff training and development.
- Budget Monitoring: Plans and monitors assigned budgets to ensure efficient use of resources.
- Facility Safety and Maintenance: Ensures that library facilities are safe, welcoming, and well-maintained for staff and patrons.
- Reference and Reader’s Advisory Services: Provides and oversees reference and reader’s advisory services to the public.
- Collection Management: Collaborates with the Collection Development & Circulation Manager to oversee the maintenance of the library collection in alignment with YVL’s strategic plan.
- Complaint Investigation and Resolution: Investigates and resolves public complaints, recommending corrective actions as necessary.
- Objective and Program Development: Develops location objectives and monitors progress in collaboration with the Library Management Team.
- Program Oversight: Oversees programming efforts at the assigned location, ensuring alignment with YVL’s strategic goals.
- Operations Evaluation and Reporting: Evaluates location operations and activities, recommends improvements, and prepares reports as required.
- Technology and Facility Coordination: Coordinates technology and facility changes with the Regional Library Manager for the assigned location.
- Compliance and Policy Adherence: Ensures compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and YVL policies.
- Patron Assistance and Information: Provides direct assistance to patrons regarding the use of library materials, equipment, and services.
- Confidentiality and Integrity: Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information at all times.
