Community Life Assistant
The Community Life Assistant supports the Community Life Minister in nurturing the relationships, systems, and rhythms that shape our shared parish life. This role is rooted in hospitality, organization, and collaboration, helping to ensure that ministries, communications, and gatherings run smoothly and that people feel connected and cared for.
Working behind the scenes and alongside the Community Life Minister and volunteers, the Assistant helps coordinate events, help with communications, and provide administrative and logistical support, with particular attention to ministries, events, and supporting children, and youth. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, event planning, has an eye for detail, and finds joy in helping others thrive.
At its heart, the Community Life Assistant role is about strengthening the fabric of our community and supporting the work of the Community Life Minister.
Hours & Compensation
- Part-time position: up to 10 hours per week
- Approximately 3 hours each week must be worked on Sundays
- Remaining hours are flexible and scheduled in coordination with the Community Life Minister
- Compensation: up to $25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications
Responsibilities
Hospitality
- Help coordinate Sunday hospitality, including coffee hour and special events
- Assist with follow-up for visitors and new members
Events & Community Building
- Support planning and logistics for parish events, gatherings, and seasonal activities
- Help recruit, coordinate, and support volunteers for ministries and events
Communication
- Assist in promoting events and activities through the weekly newsletter, emails, and social media
- Help maintain clear and timely communication with the congregation
Volunteer Coordination
- Support the recruitment and scheduling of volunteers
- Coordinate and track required volunteer background checks and clearances, ensuring compliance with church policies and safeguarding practices
Children’s Ministry Support (Sundays)
- Serve as a consistent backup on Sundays for Godly Play, Young Disciples, or nursery when volunteer coverage is limited
- Help ensure a safe, welcoming, and well-supported environment for children
- Coordinate with ministry leaders to anticipate and fill scheduling gaps
Pastoral & Relational Support
- Help notice and respond to community needs through meals, support, and check-ins
Qualities & Skills
- Warm, welcoming, and collaborative presence
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage details and follow through on tasks
- Comfort working with volunteers, families, and children
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and healthy boundaries
- Experience with church ministry, community organizing, hospitality, or administrative support is helpful but not required
Pay: $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
