Community Service Officer - Seasonal

POSITION OBJECTIVE

Join the Fridley Police Department as a Seasonal Community Service Officer and play a hands-on role in supporting public safety all summer long. In this fast-paced, 40-hour-per-week position, you’ll assist officers, respond to community needs, and help keep our city running smoothly. This is a temporary, seasonal position starting around May and working through August.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Responds to non-priority 911 calls.
  • Transports in-custody individuals to and from the Anoka County jail.
  • Enforces ordinances and statutes pertaining to animal control; and selected health and nuisance ordinances, including handling complaints and problems, collection, containment and transportation of animals to shelters or wildlife centers.
  • Enforces certain traffic laws and ordinances including parking violations, issues citations, assists at traffic accidents, and performs traffic control and direction.
  • Assists in vehicle lockouts and wildlife calls.
  • Operates and maintains bike rack and vehicle forfeiture lot.
  • Assists in crime prevention efforts.
  • Assists in investigation of pending cases.
  • Assists in recovery and inventory of lost, abandoned and confiscated property.
  • Provides security and traffic control for City facilities, parks and community events.
  • Performs motorist assistance by calling for vehicle service or other needs, transporting occupants, etc.
  • Transports City materials, documents, and serves subpoenas.
  • Transports evidence to Anoka County or the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension maintaining chain of custody requirements.
  • Operates assigned equipment, tools and vehicles in a safe, professional and effective manner.
  • Composes and maintains reports, documentation and organizational files.
  • Enters data into an automated records management system.
  • Transports vehicles and equipment for service or assistance with community events and activities.
  • Performs light maintenance such as cleaning and service checks on equipment and vehicles.
  • Attends trainings and meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or apparent.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Minnesota Driver’s License.
  • Satisfactory completion of physical exam, drug test, criminal background investigation including fingerprinting, and reference checks.
Desired Qualifications:
  • Post-high school criminal justice training/education.

  • Working knowledge of relevant laws, ordinances, policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a part of a team.
  • Ability to make decisions using good judgment and discretion in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to perform typical assignments under moderate supervision within standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to perform standard procedures and tasks using basic analytical ability.
