Companion-Caregiver and Personal Assistant for a Writer / Composer (Upper Manhattan)

We are seeking a warm, highly reliable, organized companion-caregiver/personal assistant to support a 78-year-old writer and composer in upper Manhattan. This is a part-time contractor role for someone who can provide both practical day-to-day support and assistance with creative/professional projects.

The ideal candidate is highly patient, calm, attentive, and genuinely enjoys conversation and working one-on-one with an older adult. A background in writing, music, publishing, or the arts is a significant plus, but not required.

Details:

Hours per week: 12-18 hours per week

Days per week: 2-3 days per week

Pay: $25/hour

You will provide companionship, structure, and practical support to an older adult with health issues. The role combines companion care, household/logistical support, and professional assistance.

Responsibilities include:

• providing regular companionship, conversation, and emotional support
• assisting with manuscript edits for her book, poetry publication logistics, and organization of music-related events and performances
• helping maintain routine, structure, and day-to-day follow-through
• medication reminders and help keeping medications organized
• observing for changes in wellbeing and communicating concerns promptly to family and/or clinicians
• coordinating appointments, transportation, and medical logistics
• accompanying her to appointments or events when needed
• assisting with groceries, errands, deliveries, and household logistics
• helping manage vendors, service providers, and home-related issues
• supporting household routines, tidying, and general home organization
• helping with email, scheduling, and professional correspondence
• helping her stay safe, oriented, and supported throughout the day
• adapting as needs evolve over time, including the possibility of increased personal-care support
• personal care is not currently a major part of the role, but comfort with possible future bathing/grooming assistance is important

Qualifications:

• calm, patient, kind, grounded presence
• dependable and organized
• comfortable working with an older adult experiencing health issues
• able to balance companionship with gentle structure and follow-through
• bachelor’s degree required
• prior experience in caregiving, elder support, dementia support, personal assistance, or a related field preferred (but not strictly required)
• a background in writing, editing, publishing, music, or the arts is ideal (but not strictly required)

This position is best suited to someone who enjoys conversation, is an excellent listener, and can bring warmth, steadiness, and practical competence to a dynamic day-to-day environment.
