Compost Truck Driver Assistant

Job Overview:

We are seeking a responsible and motivated Compost Truck Driver with a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) to join our team. This role involves the safe and efficient collection and transportation of compost materials between customer sites to the local compost facility. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to safety, excellent driving skills, and a friendly demeanor.

CDL holders are preferred or someone willing to acquire a Class B CDL. Applicants with an existing CDL can start driving right away. The position will start by riding on the back of our collection vehicle and empty containers ranging from 10 gallon buckets to 96 gallon trash cans on wheels. All large cans can be dumped with hydraulic equipment and transition into a driving role.

Responsibilities and Duties:

• Operate and drive trucks equipped for hauling compost materials, adhering to all DOT regulations and company policies.
• Safely load, transport, and unload compost materials at designated locations.
• Follow assigned routes and schedules, ensuring timely pickups and deliveries.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure the truck is in proper working condition.
• Maintain accurate logs of trips, mileage, and deliveries.
• Communicate effectively with customers, and team members to address scheduling or operational issues.
• Handle minor truck maintenance, such as checking oil, fuel, and tire pressure.
• Ensure the cleanliness and sanitation of the truck's cargo area.
• Ability to work in extreme temperatures and conditions that are common in the Missoula area. These range from -0℉ to 105 ℉ with snow, rain, hail, wind and sun.
• Be ready for shift at specified locations at start times as early as 5 a.m. (earlier in summer).
• Load piles of debris into the collection vehicle including large branches, piles of grass, pine needles, and other misc. material.

Qualifications:

REQUIRED:

• Valid MT DRIVERS LICENSE WITH CLEAN DRIVING RECORD
• ABILITY TO PASS A RANDOM DRUG TEST
• Highschool GED.
• Has or can get aClass B CDL
• Able to lift between 40-60 lbs in a safe, ergonomic fashion.
• Use hand tools (i.e. pitchfork, shovel, broom, razor knife.)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.

Preferred:

• Experience in waste management, composting, or related industries.
• Familiarity with local and regional routes.
• Basic mechanical skills for handling truck maintenance issues.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.50 - $26.50 per hour
