JOB SUMMARY
Provides general technical support for all products associated with the compression market. Creates and reviews designs, drawings, specifications, etc. and accomplishes work within existing systems. Performs technical observations, analysis and modification of existing and new products and components or materials. Ensures that projects meet specifications, standards, and performance requirements within area of expertise. Supports manufacturing and sales/marketing efforts in assigned area.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBLITIES

Research and design products, processes, tooling fixtures and/or develops materials that add value to customer by enhancing performance, safety, and quality requirements.

Ensures that assigned projects meet specifications, standards, and performance requirements within area of expertise. Communicates customer requirements and specifications to project team and outside suppliers as appropriate. Communicates changes and updates to the project team leader and to the customer as required.

Facilitates and coordinates the selection and approval of technically acceptable, cost-effective materials and components for products and customer applications.

Frequently leads projects and develops and maintains project planning and cost schedules. Monitors and ensures that projects are completed on time and that costs are within budget.
- Works with production managers and manufacturing engineering to develop production processes and operator instructions for new products, processes, or materials. Utilizes Statistical Quality Control and Statistical Process Control techniques in the analysis and verification of tooling and process development.

Assists with establishing quality standards for products and processes and ensures that standards are met.

Uses 3-D CAD-CAM and AutoCAD software equipment and database systems to prepare layout and detail drawings.
- Performs preliminary and secondary design checks.

Ensures that environmental issues concerning materials, processes or applications are proactively addressed and that required policies and procedures are met.

Prepares documentation and communications such as Engineering Change Notice and engineering specifications and ensures conformance to all policies and procedures related to engineering functions, labor reporting and systems reporting.

Consults with other departments on product designs, problems, and questions.

Prepares reports, correspondence, procedures, specifications, and technical calculations. Prepares technical data and papers for sales personnel, customers and publications using good internal presentation and report writing skills.

Leads efforts to continuously improve products, applications, processes, and methods to increase safety, quality, reliability, competitiveness, and efficiency.
Designs tests for material and/or product evaluation. Evaluates prototypes and products to determine design limits and needed improvements. Performs failure analysis and recommends solutions to prevent future occurrences. Prepares test reports and closure reports on engineering project assignments.
COMPRESSION REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of reciprocating and rotating compression equipment including design principles, materials used, and physical principles of each respectively.
- Experience with gas compression applications and their unique challenges.
- Experience designing non-metallic sealing and bearing components, including rod packing, wear bands, piston rings, valve plates, poppets, etc..
- Materials knowledge around thermoplastics and fluoropolymers including PTFE, PEEK, PPS, PFA, and PI including application specific materials selection and manufacturing processes for each.

Familiarity of industry specific standards including API 617, API 618, API 619, API 681 and API 672.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, Plastics or equivalent Engineering discipline combined with a minimum of five (5) years’ experience designing compressor rod packing, piston rings, and rider bands for reciprocating compressors in a technical role in an industrial setting required.
- Appropriate computer skills including Microsoft Office applications
Excellent organizational skills and Project Management experience required
WORK ENVIRONMENT

CDI is a manufacturing site. This position will be in an office, however, would move about the lab / shop. Travel to customer sites, technical organizations, and trade shows may be required.
May be exposed to potential hazards such as high noise, high pressure and temperatures, heavy equipment, chemicals, fumes, etc. when working or visiting the Engineering laboratory, assembly areas or field applications.
