Job Description – Lab Assistant

Key ResponsibilitiesA. Lab Operations & Maintenance

· Ensure daily opening and closing of all computer labs as per schedule.

· Maintain all desktops, printers, scanners, projectors, biometric devices, LAN connections, switches, Wi-Fi routers, and UPS systems.

· Regularly update operating systems, antivirus, and software required for BCA/B.Tech practicals.

· Install and configure software such as Python, Java, SQL, RDBMS packages, IDEs, compilers, virtual machines, etc.

· Maintain an updated inventory of hardware/software, along with AMC and warranty records.

· Coordinate with vendors/IT support for repairs or procurement.

B. Technical Support

· Provide immediate troubleshooting for hardware, software, and network issues during lab sessions.

· Assist faculty in preparing systems for practical exams, internal assessments, and university practicals.

· Support students in executing lab tasks related to programming, databases, networking, OS, AI tools, etc.

· Handle configuration and monitoring of CCTV/Surveillance (if connected through the lab network).

C. Academic Support

· Prepare and set up lab exercises and practical problem files in coordination with faculty.

· Ensure availability of licensed software, online learning tools, and cloud accounts (as per curriculum).

· Support in conducting workshops, hackathons, coding tests, and project evaluations.

· Assist in maintaining lab manuals, attendance, and practical records.

D. Discipline & Safety

· Ensure proper seating, discipline, and adherence to lab rules by students.

· Monitor usage of systems to prevent misuse, gaming, or unauthorized installations.

· Maintain cleanliness and proper arrangement of systems, chairs, and lab equipment.

· Ensure electrical, fire, and cyber safety protocols are followed.

3. Required Qualifications

· Minimum Qualification: Diploma in Computer Engineering / BCA / B.Sc (IT) / B.Tech (CSE/IT).

· Knowledge of OS installation, networking basics, system configuration.

· Knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python, Java (preferred).

· Hands-on knowledge of MS Office, Google Workspace, and common utilities.

4. Experience

· 0–3 years of experience in technical support or IT labs (freshers with strong technical skills may apply).

· Experience in academic institutions preferred.
