About Ophthalytics

Ophthalytics is a fast-growing US healthcare AI startup expanding globally. Our mission is to end preventable blindness worldwide by enabling early detection of vision-threatening diseases using advanced imaging and AI.

We are among a small number of companies building Explainable AI (XAI) algorithms—AI that produces clinically meaningful outputs with transparency and trust.

Recognition & Momentum

  • Named one of Georgia’s Top 10 Most Innovative Companies (2025)
  • Partnerships and collaborations with world-class research ecosystems, including Georgia Tech, and research relationships involving leading institutions such as Yale and Harvard
  • Rapid expansion across new regions, customers, and product capabilities

Role Summary

We are hiring a Computer Vision Engineer with strong deep learning expertise and proven ability to build production-ready ML systems on AWS. TensorFlow is preferred, but you should also be comfortable working with PyTorch and other modern ML frameworks as needed.

This is a high-ownership, fast-paced role with significant growth potential. You will work directly with the Founder, with high visibility and real impact on product direction and execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and improve computer vision models for:
  • Classification (including multi-label)
  • Object detection
  • Segmentation
  • Image quality assessment / quality gating
  • Implement and fine-tune modern deep learning architectures:
  • EfficientNet, ConvNeXt
  • Vision Transformers (ViT, Swin)
  • Own evaluation and reporting:
  • F1, AUROC, sensitivity/specificity, thresholding, error analysis, experiment tracking
  • Data management & data engineering (required):
  • design/maintain dataset pipelines (ingestion, cleaning, normalization, deduplication)
  • dataset versioning and lineage, train/val/test split strategy
  • labeling workflow support, metadata management, and quality checks
  • build reproducible data + training pipelines with clear documentation
  • Build scalable training and deployment workflows on AWS
  • Productionize models for deployment (as needed):
  • TensorFlow Serving / TF-TRT / TFLite
  • TorchScript / ONNX (plus)
  • latency/throughput optimization and reliability checks
  • Maintain strong software engineering standards:
  • clean code, Git/PR workflows, documentation, and unit/integration testing

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in computer vision / deep learning (or equivalent portfolio)
  • TensorFlow 2.x / Keras preferred, plus working knowledge of PyTorch and/or other ML frameworks
  • Strong Python skills
  • Strong grasp of CV modeling and training best practices (losses, augmentation, imbalance handling)
  • Strong evaluation experience (F1, AUROC, sensitivity/specificity, calibration, error analysis)
  • AWS is required: S3, EC2, IAM, CloudWatch (minimum); experience running ML workloads on AWS
  • Strong knowledge of data management and data engineering for ML pipelines and large datasets
  • Strong software development best practices (testing, code reviews, maintainable architecture, Git)

Preferred Qualifications

  • AWS SageMaker, ECR, ECS/EKS, Step Functions, Terraform/IaC
  • MLOps experience: experiment tracking, model registry, drift monitoring
  • Explainability methods: Grad-CAM / saliency / attention visualization
  • Medical imaging familiarity (bonus): DICOM/DICOMWeb, clinical workflow exposure

Why Join Ophthalytics

  • High-impact mission: your work supports early detection and prevention of blindness globally
  • Fast-paced environment: high ownership, rapid iteration, real production outcomes
  • Direct access to leadership: work directly with the Founder and influence priorities
  • Huge growth potential: opportunity to grow into senior/lead roles as the team scales
  • World-class ecosystem: collaborations and partnerships connected to leading research institutions and innovation hubs
