Position Scope

The Concrete Finisher is responsible for placing, finishing, and repairing concrete surfaces on civil construction and infrastructure projects. This role focuses on achieving high-quality finishes for bridges, roadways, sidewalks, decks, and other structural concrete elements while ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and industry best practices.


Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Place, level, and finish concrete surfaces using hand and power tools
  • Perform concrete finishing tasks including screeding, floating, troweling, edging, and texturing
  • Assist with concrete placement, consolidation, and curing processes
  • Repair, resurface, and patch concrete structures, including bridge decks and roadway surfaces
  • Read and interpret drawings, specifications, and grade stakes to achieve proper elevations and slopes
  • Install and finish concrete for curbs, sidewalks, slabs, decks, and structural components
  • Apply surface treatments, sealers, and curing compounds as required
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and finishing equipment
  • Work with forming crews, pump operators, and supervisors to ensure quality and productivity
  • Follow all occupational health and safety policies, traffic control requirements, and environmental regulations
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe work area


Education and Work Experience

  • Journeyman Concrete Finisher certification or equivalent experience preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in concrete finishing on civil or infrastructure projects
  • Experience with bridge decks, roadways, or heavy civil construction considered an asset
  • Valid driver’s license required


Knowledge, Skills, and Responsibilities

  • Strong knowledge of concrete properties, finishing techniques, and curing methods
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, elevations, and specifications
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety regulations and safe work practices
  • High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Physically capable of heavy lifting, repetitive motions, and prolonged standing
  • Comfortable working in variable weather conditions and at heights when required


Work Environment

  • Outdoor construction sites, including bridges, roadways, and civil infrastructure
  • Exposure to wet concrete, noise, dust, heavy equipment, and varying weather conditions
  • May require working near traffic, at heights, or over water
  • Flexible work hours, including nights, weekends, or extended shifts depending on project schedules
