Concrete Foreman - Civil (West Coast)

Who We Are

Downrite Engineering is an established underground utility and sitework contractor delivering deep sanitary sewer, water main, storm drainage, roadway, and concrete improvements across South Florida. Our crews build the infrastructure behind residential communities, logistics parks, and commercial developments. We are looking for a skilled, safety-focused team member to join our concrete operations.

The Role

This is a civil concrete foreman position focused on flatwork — curb and gutter, sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveway aprons, and small slabs and pads — not vertical or structural concrete. You'll run a working crew from layout through pour and finish: setting line and grade, directing forming and finishing, coordinating concrete deliveries, and making sure the work meets agency specifications and passes inspection. This is a hands-on role; you lead the crew and stay engaged in the work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a civil concrete crew on curb and gutter, valley gutter, sidewalks, ADA ramps, driveway aprons, small slabs/pads, headwalls, and flumes.
  • Read and interpret civil plans, profiles, and details; set and verify line, grade, and slope before pours.
  • Direct layout, forming, and subgrade/base prep ahead of each pour.
  • Schedule and coordinate concrete deliveries and manage pour sequencing to keep the crew productive.
  • Oversee placing, screeding, finishing, jointing, and curing to specification.
  • Ensure ADA compliance — ramp slopes, cross slopes, and detectable warning (truncated dome) placement.
  • Coordinate with inspectors and agencies (FDOT, Miami-Dade, county, and municipal) for compliance and acceptance.
  • Run or coordinate slipform/curb machine work where used; otherwise manage hand-formed work.
  • Maintain work-zone and MOT safety when working in and near live roadways.
  • Track production, concrete yardage, materials, and crew hours; report status to the superintendent/PM.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years in civil/flatwork concrete, with proven foreman or crew-lead experience.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of curb and gutter, sidewalks, ADA ramps, and small slabs.
  • Ability to read plans and set line, grade, and slope.
  • Working knowledge of FDOT / county flatwork standards and finishing requirements.
  • Able to manage pours, finishing, jointing, and curing to spec.
  • Reliable, safety-focused, and able to keep a crew productive in field conditions.
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Slipform / curb machine experience (e.g., Power Curbers, Miller).
  • Strong familiarity with ADA / PROWAG requirements.
  • OSHA 30 and work-zone / MOT (Maintenance of Traffic) training.
  • Experience coordinating with South Florida agency inspectors.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) — strongly preferred for crew leadership in this market.

Physical Requirements

  • Able to work outdoors in South Florida heat and weather year-round.
  • Able to lift and maneuver forms, tools, and materials and work on uneven ground.
  • Comfortable on active jobsites and near live traffic.

What We Offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience.
  • [Health insurance / PTO / other benefits].
  • Steady backlog of work across active civil and sitework projects.
  • Opportunity to grow with a respected South Florida contractor.

Pay: $27.00 - $33.00 per hour

Benefits:

  • Health insurance
