Salary range: $29 per hour, depending on experience

As a growing, team-oriented company, we’re looking for a Concrete Pavement Repair Laborer to join our crew.

The laborer role assists with a variety of construction tasks, equipment operation, and material handling to support concrete pavement repair, joint preparation, and sealing operations. This position may include cleaning concrete particles from highway joints or cracks, sandblasting joints, installing backer rod in deep joints, sealing concrete, picking up debris, and assisting with moving, unboxing, loading, and unloading materials. Training is provided; the employee must be able to work proficiently and with minimal supervision once trained.


The employee may use tools and equipment such as air compressors, sandblasting equipment, jackhammers, power tools, welders, hand tools, shovels, flagger carts, crash trucks, and material-handling devices, and perform other duties as assigned.


Key Responsibilities / Essential Functions

(General duties; not all inclusive)

Training is provided; employees must be able to operate proficiently and with minimal supervision once trained.

  • Use an air compressor to blow out and completely clean concrete particles, debris, and dust from highway joints and cracks.
  • Pick up and remove debris from the work area.
  • Sandblast joints and cracks in preparation for repair or sealing.
  • Install backer rod to fill deep joints prior to sealing.
  • Seal concrete joints and cracks according to project specifications.
  • Assist with moving, unboxing, staging, loading, and unloading materials.
  • Mark repair boundaries and set cones and signage.
  • Sawcut the perimeter of slabs to be repaired or replaced.
  • Remove damaged concrete by jackhammering or chipping.
  • Place repair material and finish to match grade and texture.
  • Ensure curing is completed per specification and assist with reopening the roadway to traffic.
  • Utilize CDL license to drive various equipment to and from, and on and off, the project, including:
    • Water truck, which requires tanker endorsement
    • Side dump
    • Lowboy
    • Trailers with GVWR exceeding 10,000 lbs.
  • Maintain a high level of communication and awareness of where other workers are on the jobsite at all times.
  • Inspect and maintain equipment routinely.
  • Manipulate machine levers with a great deal of coordination (if required).
  • Participate in ongoing safety, equipment, and operational training.
  • Work extended hours, various shifts, and travel extensively, often weeks to months at a time.
  • Support yard days and perform additional tasks as needed.

Qualifications / Skills

  • Ability to safely learn and operate a variety of construction tools and equipment.
  • Ability to use air compressors, hand tools, and other equipment to clean, prepare, and seal concrete joints and cracks.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including debris removal, material handling, and assisting with loading and unloading trucks.
  • Strong communication and jobsite awareness.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work safely around moving equipment and crews.
  • Keeps equipment in good working order through routine inspections and care.
  • CDL A License (tanker endorsement preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior construction experience (laborer/operator support).
  • Experience with concrete repair, joint sealing, sandblasting, backer rod installation, or roadway maintenance.
  • Experience with heavy tools (jackhammer), welding, traffic control support, or material handling.

Physical expectations of this role include:

  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of hands/arms to operate machinery and tools.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs. or more as needed for equipment and material handling.
  • Ability to climb, crawl, or work on/around machinery as essential to inspections and repairs.
  • Visual abilities including distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Ability to remain with equipment for extended periods and work long shifts.

All physical requirements are directly related to essential job tasks performed in active construction environments.


WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions, temperature extremes, and varying jobsite environments.
  • Noise levels requiring proper PPE.
  • Extensive travel, often weeks to months at a time.
  • Ability to work days, nights, or rotating shifts depending on project needs.
