Role

The Congregational Administrator will provide administrative support for the operation of Tree of Life Unitarian Universalist Congregation, coordinate the efforts of staff with lay volunteers and oversee congregational communications within the organization and with the outside community. This position concentrates on technical administration and payroll. The Congregational Administrator is expected to work with the Minister, Office Administrator, other staff, and volunteer committee members and the congregation. This position reports to the Minister, or a liaison appointed by the board. This position can be fully remote.

Education/Experience

  • Skilled in using and evaluating office and fiscal management software is required. Experience with Google Workspace, Quickbooks Online, Church management software, and Wordpress or comparable is desirable.
  • Has experience in basic accounting principles
  • Interacts comfortably with a diverse group of members and visitors
  • Able to organize and execute projects in a multi-task environment
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal, written and editing skills
  • Experience in payroll accounting and can ensure payroll and benefits compliance
  • Minimum of Associates degree in business management or equivalent experience. The preferred applicant will have three to four years of administrative, office assistant or secretarial experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Understanding Unitarian Universalism: The Unitarian Universalist Association and MidAmerica Region frequently send valuable resources to the Congregational Administrator. The Congregational Administrator would need to develop the knowledge of the UUA/Region and the congregation to effectively distribute this information to congregational leaders
  • Communications: Ability to support congregational communication. Ability to curate available resources. Maintain a robust social media presence
  • Experience with UUA benefits system desirable but not required

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates bookkeeping, payroll, and budgeting responsibilities with the bookkeeper and the board treasurer
  • Attends weekly evening meetings
  • Reviews and revises administrative procedures as needed
  • Facilitates congregational communication, including social media outreach and website maintenance per the congregation’s communications policies.
  • Maintains involvement in professional associations (i.e. – Association of UU Administrators – AUUA)
  • Supports the Board, Staff and Minister for coordination and administration of programs
  • Supports the church calendar and activities in coordination with the Office Administrator
  • Maintains online church files, records, and databases; coordinates with UU regional and national associations
  • Supports the ministries of the congregation through clerical support
  • Participates in staff meetings in person or remotely
  • Assists Worship Arts Committee with coordination of Sunday service as needed
  • Provides remote administrative support to Program Council leaders

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $22.00 - $27.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15 – 20 per week
