Description:

The Connections Coordinator – K5 Program is responsible for developing and maintaining meaningful connections with youth, families, school personnel and community partners to support youth development. This role ensures the successful implementation of programs and long-term operations, fosters engagement, and provides necessary resources to support youth in achieving academic and personal success. The Connections Coordinator also is responsible for providing guidance and coaching to Site Coordinators and program staff.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work closely with school faculty and staff to determine students that may need additional support during the school day and out of school time hours.
  • Provide regular support to students and families to improve attendance, provide social-emotional support, meet basic student and family needs, and connect the student to tutoring and other forms of academic assistance as appropriate.
  • Connect with families in meaningful ways to ensure the unique needs of high risk families are identified, met and continuously supported.
  • Coordinate educational opportunities for the family related to academics, basic life skills or other identified needs.
  • Support student transition times from grade to grade, school-to-afterschool, and other transitions.
  • Assist in the coordination of mentoring programs to enhance student outcomes.
  • Collect, report, and analyze student data to track student progress.
  • Partner with the Site Coordinator(s) and program staff to implement effective programming and other enhancements.
  • Facilitate frequent and consistent communication between daytime school staff and after school program staff.
  • Lead and participate in family engagement events with the school and community partners.
  • Build strong relationships with school partners and community stakeholders and identify opportunities for them to align services that the school and community may need.
  • Assisting students in programming or direct care activities during the school day or after school program as needed.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to Site Coordinator(s) and program staff.
  • Responsible for all other tasks as assigned by the K-5 Director, District Manager, and school leadership.
Requirements:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, elementary education or another related field. Experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • One or more years of experience in school age care, education, social services, working with underserved populations, or related field is preferred.
  • A valid CPR Certification or the ability to obtain and maintain CPR certification within 90 days of employment is required. The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire does provide training for those not certified.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative, and to think and work independently with high attention to detail.
  • Knowledge and understanding of community resources is preferred.
  • Problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Constant hearing, hand-eye coordination, mind-eye coordination.
  • Intermittent speaking, standing, walking, kneeling, lifting, reaching, low-level activity, and squatting.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases.
  • Frequent lifting of objects under 20 pounds, and occasional lifting of items up to 75 pounds.
  • Indoor with minimal outdoor work; extreme temperature in the summer and winter can be expected.
