ABOUT ALABAMA INSTITUTE FOR DEAF AND BLIND (AIDB)
Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind (AIDB) is the world’s most comprehensive education, rehabilitation, and service program serving individuals of all ages who are Deaf, Blind, DeafBlind, and multidisabled and their families. Founded in 1858, AIDB serves more than 32,000 infants, toddlers, children, adults, and seniors with hearing and vision loss throughout Alabama each year.
Our services literally span a lifetime including five campuses in Talladega, ten regional centers located throughout the State of Alabama with programs that range from early and senior intervention, traditional and nontraditional education services in residential and outreach settings, and a manufacturing facility that is the state’s largest employer of adults who are Deaf, Blind, or DeafBlind. Our employees are among the organization’s most valuable assets and resources. We share compassion for leveling the playing field for all. Our mission makes AIDB a unique place to work.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project is a national effort currently established in two regions with two more regional centers in development. REAL South, located at AIDB, is the premiere agency working in collaboration with the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University. Once all four regions are established, they will work together to provide national professional development and resource dissemination efforts focused on early language acquisition for young deaf and hard of hearing children.
The REAL South Connector, reporting to the REAL South Director, supports families and professionals serving deaf and hard of hearing children aged birth to three. This role involves planning activities, developing materials, managing data, and providing technical assistance to families, Early Intervention (EI) providers, and medical professionals. The REAL Connector collaborates with the regional team to create integrated support systems and training for states and territories, aligning their work with other regional centers and the national REAL team to ensure consistency across the project.
