Construction Bookkeeper & Fractional Controller (Remote)

<Overview>

Gopelia is a dynamic construction firm seeking a talented Bookkeeper & Fractional Controller to join our team. This hybrid role blends hands-on bookkeeping with higher-level financial oversight to ensure accurate records, robust financial analysis and effective job costing. You will help drive financial accuracy, control and transparency as our company scales from $2M toward $6M+ in annual revenue. This is a fully remote position with flexible hours; you will collaborate closely with our leadership team to support multiple projects.

<Duties>

• Perform weekly bank and credit‑card reconciliations, ensuring there are zero uncategorized transactions by the close of each week.

• Code every expense accurately to the appropriate job or overhead account and enforce job cost tagging.

• Enter vendor bills within 48 hours of receipt and maintain organized records.

• Prepare monthly financial deliverables including:

– Clean profit & loss statement with variance analysis vs prior month

– Job Gross Margin reports by project

– Work‑In‑Progress (WIP) schedule

– 13‑week cash forecast

– Accounts receivable (AR) aging review and retainage exposure report

– Overhead percentage trend analysis

• Provide insights on WIP distortions, margin leakage and cash blind spots; collaborate with management to address issues.

• Support budgeting, forecasting and scaling initiatives with robust financial data and analysis.

<Qualifications>

• 5+ years of bookkeeping and accounting experience, with at least 2 years in construction or project‑based environments.

• Strong understanding of construction job costing, WIP accounting and financial reporting; ability to prepare WIP schedules and gross margin reports is essential.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, Xero or similar accounting software, plus strong Excel skills.

• High attention to detail, organizational skills and ability to work independently in a remote environment.

• Excellent communication skills to collaborate with vendors, project managers and leadership.
