Ivey’s Construction, Inc. is a well-established, privately held construction company based in Merritt Island, Florida with over 50 years in business. Our current Controller of 20 years is retiring soon.
We are seeking a Construction Controller to lead our accounting and financial operations. This pivotal role involves managing all accounting functions related to construction projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. The Construction Controller will drive financial accuracy, oversee budgeting and forecasting, and provide strategic insights to support project success. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of project accounting, including general ledger management, account reconciliation, and financial reporting aligned with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards).
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely payments and collections while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
- Conduct balance sheet reconciliations and monitor cash management activities to optimize liquidity and financial health.
- Prepare detailed financial reports, including project budgets, forecasts, and regulatory filings for governmental agencies or non-profit entities.
- Implement and maintain accounting software such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Viewpoint, or similar platforms to streamline financial operations.
- Manage bank reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and cash postings
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting, including Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules
- Improve systems, reporting, and ERP functionality, with a focus on automation and process optimization
- Lead internal audits, support external audit processes, and uphold rigorous internal controls across all financial functions.
- Collaborate with project managers to analyze costs, perform account analysis, and support financial decision-making related to project profitability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance. CPA License is highly desirable.
- 10+ years of progressive accounting experience within commercial construction
- Minimum of 5 years in a Controller role at a company with at least $25M in annual revenue is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, job costing, and WIP reporting
- Proven experience in construction accounting field with strong knowledge of GAAP, IFRS, SOX compliance, and governmental accounting standards.
- Demonstrated expertise in financial analysis, account reconciliation, budgeting, forecasting, and financial report writing.
- Proficiency with construction-based ERP accounting software such as Sage, Microsoft Dynamics SL, Viewpoint, or similar platforms; experience with financial management tools is essential.
- Solid understanding of double entry bookkeeping principles including debits & credits and general ledger reconciliation processes.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Excellent communication skills for preparing clear financial reports and collaborating across teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
