Job Description:
INFOTRAN seeks an experienced Construction Inspector with expertise in paving, roadway restoration, infrastructure and highway construction to oversee projects in the NJ/NY area. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with agency specifications, codes, and safety standards while collaborating with contractors, engineers, and government stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee daily field inspections of roadway, paving, curbs, sidewalks, drainage, utilities, traffic control, and other highway construction activities on DOT projects.
- Ensure contractor work is executed in full compliance with DOT plans, specifications, contract documents, and applicable standards (NJDOT, NJTA, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NYSDOT, etc.).
- Evaluate construction methods, material placement, compaction, asphalt and concrete operations, and workmanship to verify adherence to approved QC/QA requirements.
- Prepare, review, and validate detailed daily inspection reports, quantities for payment, manpower/equipment data, and site condition records submitted by junior inspectors if applicable.
- Serve as a key point of coordination between the contractor, resident engineer, utilities, and agency representatives, supporting issue resolution and timely decision-making in the field.
- Monitor traffic control and work zone safety to confirm compliance with MUTCD, OSHA, and DOT safety protocols, and immediately report unsafe practices.
- Review and analyze test results, QC/QA reporting, and field measurements to support payment approvals and contractual compliance evaluations.
- Identify and document non-conforming or defective work, recommend corrective actions, and track resolutions through follow-up inspections.
- Provide guidance and technical support to junior inspectors to maintain consistent inspection standards and reporting quality across the project.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of construction inspection experience in roadway, paving, and highway infrastructure projects (DOT experience required).
- Education in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline.
- Certifications: NICET Level III or IV preferred; ACI and OSHA required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
- Strong communication, leadership, and teamwork skills for coordination with contractors, engineers, and agency personnel on active construction sites.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $104,000.00 - $114,400.00 per year
