Under the direction of the Construction Foreman of Public Works, the incumbent performs skilled tasks related to the maintenance of all Tribal-owned roadways, grounds, equipment, and facilities requiring general labor work and construction work. May be transferred into any division within the Public Works Department as needed or assigned. Completion of High School or GED and two years' experience in performing construction work. Must be able to safely operate equipment and tools such as mowers, chain saws, snow blowers, wood chippers, etc. as well as other small equipment such as, but not limited to, rollers, compactors, air compressors, Bobcat, Kubota, and Steiner. Must be able to safely operate pickup trucks to plow snow and haul materials to and from work sites and be able to haul a trailer using side-view mirrors. Must be experienced in utility trenchwork. Must maintain a valid driver's license; must provide a yearly DMV Certified Driving History. Any trade licenses are desirable. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Mandatory 24 hour on-call snow removal duty from November 1 to April 30. There is a mandatory snow removal duty whereupon the incumbent must report to work regardless of approved time off. Additionally, the remainder of the year requires 24 hour on call work status; however you are exempt from work duty if on pre-approved leave during this time. The employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and airborne particles such as dust. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is also required to work along roadways, around power lines, gas, water, and sewer mains.
