Construction Laborer- pipe division

The Anderson Company, LLC, a site development company for over 27 years is seeking a construction laborer for our pipe crews. The Pipe Construction Laborer assists in the installation, repair, and maintenance of underground utility systems, including water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, and conduit systems. This position performs a variety of manual labor tasks to support pipe crews, equipment operators, and foremen while ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and according to project specifications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Grade trenches, culverts, and excavations by hand or with construction equipment assistance.

· Communicate effectively with equipment operators using standard hand signals and verbal direction.

· Position pipe accurately and assist in sealing pipe joints.

· Verify elevations, slopes, and grades using lasers, builder's levels, and hand levels.

· Cut pipe to required lengths using chop saws, handsaws, and other approved tools.

· Install, repair, and maintain sanitary sewer and stormwater structures.

· Properly inspect, use, and maintain rigging equipment for lifting and positioning materials.

· Grout pipe joints and related utility structures as required.

· Raise valve boxes, meter boxes, manholes, and other structures to final grade.

· Install water, storm sewer, sanitary sewer, and conduit piping systems.

· Dig and prepare trenches using hand tools and trenching equipment.

· Locate and expose existing underground utilities using shovels and other hand tools.

· Tap holes in manholes and pipelines for service connections as needed.

· Install and hand-tighten mechanical joint fittings to specified torque and tension requirements.

· Mix, place, and finish concrete for thrust blocks and utility-related structures.

· Install and connect water services using compression fittings.

· Install meter boxes and related utility appurtenances.

· Apply approved adhesives, primers, and sealants when gluing pipe and fittings.

· Maintain a clean and safe work area and follow all company safety policies and procedures.

· Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors or project management.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

· Basic knowledge of underground utility construction practices.

· Ability to read grade stakes, measurements, and construction drawings preferred.

· Ability to safely operate hand tools, power tools, and small equipment.

· Knowledge of trench safety and excavation hazards.

· Ability to work effectively as part of a crew in a fast-paced construction environment.

· Strong attention to safety, quality, and workmanship.

· Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

· Ability to read, understand, and follow safe work practices outlined by OSHA, MISS UTILITY, and company (TAC) safety policies

· Strong punctuality and reliability

Physical and Work Demands

The physical demands described below are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.

· Frequently lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; occasionally lift or move items weighing more than 50 pounds with assistance.

· Perform continuous physical labor including bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, squatting, climbing, reaching, twisting, digging, and walking on uneven terrain.

· Enter and work within trenches, excavations, and confined spaces when properly trained and authorized.

· Stand, walk, and work for extended periods throughout the workday.

· Use hands and arms repetitively to handle tools, materials, and equipment.

· Maintain visual awareness to recognize hazards, read measuring devices, and communicate with equipment operators.

· Work safely around moving heavy equipment, traffic, underground utilities, and construction materials.

· Tolerate exposure to dust, mud, noise, vibration, fumes, and varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, wind, and humidity.

· Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, reflective clothing, and safety-toed footwear.

· Ability to work overtime, weekends, and varying schedules as required by project demands.

Work Environment

This position is performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites. Employees are regularly exposed to changing weather conditions, moving equipment, excavation hazards, and physically demanding work activities.
