Our client in the energy sector is looking to hire a Construction Lawyer for their company. Seeking a Construction Lawyer with 3–5 years of experience in Omani law. The role involves supporting the Head of Legal in overseeing construction-related contracts, project execution agreements, and regulatory compliance requirements across Oman.
The successful candidate will be responsible for legal oversight of construction agreements, ensuring compliance with Omani construction laws, and managing regulatory processes related to permits, approvals, land use, and environmental regulations. Given the evolving nature of construction standards, the role will require adaptability to work with various contractual frameworks and ensure compliance with whichever regulatory requirements apply to the company’s projects.
This position requires a detail-oriented and adaptable professional who can handle legal and regulatory matters efficiently, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and contribute to the company’s growth while working closely with the Head of Legal.
Construction Contracting & Project Agreements
•Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating construction-related contracts, including EPC, design-build, supply, and subcontracting agreements.
•Support contract negotiations with contractors, suppliers, and engineering firms.
•Ensure construction contracts incorporate risk mitigation strategies, performance guarantees, and dispute resolution mechanisms.
•Monitor contract execution, variations, claims, and enforcement to protect company interests.
•Adapt to and apply relevant industry-standard contracts (FIDIC or others), as required.
Regulatory Compliance & Construction Approvals
•Assist in obtaining construction permits, environmental approvals, and land-use permissions in compliance with Omani regulations.
•Ensure compliance with local building codes, zoning laws, health and safety regulations, and environmental impact requirements.
•Support regulatory interactions with municipal authorities, the Ministry of Housing & Urban Planning, and other government bodies overseeing construction activities.
•Maintain and update regulatory records, approvals, and compliance filings.
Risk Management & Dispute Resolution
•Support the management of construction-related disputes, including contract enforcement, delays, and claims.
•Assist in handling regulatory challenges, non-compliance issues, and contractor obligations.
•Work with external counsel and consultants on litigation, arbitration, or mediation, if required.
Qualifications & Requirements
•Education: Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business Law, or other related field.
•Experience: 3–5 years in construction law, project contracting, or regulatory compliance, preferably in a corporate legal department or law firm handling construction-related legal matters.
•Legal Admission: Qualification to practice in Oman. Legal experience in other GCC jurisdictions is a plus.
Expertise in:
Language Skills: Excellent communication skills in English required; Arabic proficiency preferred.
