JOB SUMMARY
The Construction Maintenance Worker performs responsible semiskilled work on a variety of construction, maintenance, and repair projects. Reporting to the Crew Chief, the Construction Maintenance Worker works under general supervision sufficient to monitor progress and assess achievement of key performance indicators.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Performs a variety of semiskilled tasks in the construction, maintenance, and repair of public facilities such as streets, water, and sewer lines, drain ways and sidewalks.
  • Operates dump trucks, mowers, weed-eaters, chain saws, concrete mixers, trimmers, tractors, hydraulic winches, hoists, boom truck, rear loader, and similar equipment.
  • Loads and hauls materials to and from job sites; assists in the installation of pipe in ditch line; assists in the installation and repair of catch basins; cleans catch basins, manholes and sewer lines.
  • Assists with the installation and repair of water and sewer lines and related facilities; assists in the installation and removal of water meters.
  • Assists with spreading asphalt to repair potholes and utility cuts in streets.
  • Assists in cleaning rights-of-way on public streets and property; cuts limbs; collects limbs; mows grass, sprays weeds.
  • Installs and maintains erosion control.
  • Assists with traffic control and flagging; assists with setting up work zones.
  • Performs general landscaping and surface restoration at job sites.
  • Assists with the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
  • Assists with snow removal and ice control.
  • Performs related tasks as required.

This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 80 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and grasping; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, noise, vibration, hazards, atmospheric conditions, oils, and wearing a self-contained breathing apparatus.
