Position Summary:
The Construction Manager is responsible for planning, managing, and overseeing all aspects of Habitat for Humanity construction projects, including new home construction and home repair programs. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with building codes and Habitat standards. The Construction Manager supervises build sites, coordinates subcontractors, manages materials, and works closely with volunteers, partner families, and staff to advance Habitat’s mission of building safe, affordable housing. This is a hands-on position.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Project Management
- Manage all phases of residential construction projects from site preparation through final inspection.
- Develop project timelines and ensure construction milestones are met.
- Monitor construction budgets and ensure cost-effective use of materials and labor.
- Coordinate subcontractors, inspectors, suppliers, and vendors.
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, safety regulations, and Habitat construction standards.
Volunteer Engagement
- Provide supervision and guidance to volunteers on construction sites.
- Train volunteers in safe construction practices and proper tool usage.
- Foster a welcoming and positive volunteer experience.
- Work collaboratively with the volunteer coordinator to schedule volunteer groups.
Site Safety & Quality Control
- Maintain safe and organized construction sites in accordance with OSHA standards.
- Conduct daily site safety briefings when volunteers are present.
- Ensure quality workmanship and adherence to Habitat construction standards.
- Address and correct safety hazards immediately.
Materials & Inventory Management
- Order construction materials and ensure timely delivery to job sites.
- Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and materials.
- Ensure efficient use of donated materials when available.
Partner Family Support
- Work respectfully with partner families participating in sweat equity.
- Provide instruction and supervision for partner families working on-site.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Maintain construction schedules and project documentation.
- Track project costs and report progress to leadership.
- Assist with construction planning and budgeting for future builds.
- Complete all training of Habitat for Humanity and Harrisburg Habitat standards.
Community & Donor Engagement
- Represent Habitat professionally when interacting with sponsors, donors, and community partners on build sites.
- Support special build events and sponsor build days.
Qualifications Required:
- Experience in residential construction, carpentry, or construction management.
- Ability to supervise volunteers with varying skill levels.
- Knowledge of residential building practices and safety standards.
- Strong organizational and project management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred:
- Previous experience with Habitat for Humanity or volunteer-based construction.
- OSHA safety certification.
- Experience supervising multiple construction projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with affordable housing or nonprofit housing programs.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, climb ladders, bend, and work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to operate construction tools and equipment safely.
Work Environment:
This position primarily works on active construction sites and requires frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions. Some administrative work will occur in an office setting.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $71,000.00 per year
