Construction Project Manager

Location: Lexington, KY and Louisville, KY — must be able to work half the week out of Lexington and half the week out of Louisville. (Chicago, IL candidates may be considered if willing to travel at least 1 week per month)

Position Overview

The Construction Project Manager supports the EPC Project Manager or Program Manager in overseeing all phases of project execution from pre-construction through completion and warranty. This role is responsible for managing safety, quality, scheduling, cost control, contracts, subcontractors, suppliers, documentation, client relations, and field staff. The ideal candidate is a proven leader with strong organizational skills, able to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment while upholding the highest safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day construction activities and ensure successful execution of projects.

  • Oversee project safety, quality, budget, scheduling, and risk management.

  • Direct project planning, estimating, cost development, and scheduling.

  • Manage subcontractors, suppliers, contracts, proposals, change orders, and documentation.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships; act as a primary interface for project issues.

  • Participate in risk reviews and contract negotiations in collaboration with Legal.

  • Implement project execution plans, staffing plans, safety plans, and procurement strategies.

  • Oversee construction staffing, training, and utilization of resources.

  • Verify permits and compliance with project-specific requirements.

  • Manage bidding, RFPs, contractor selection, and scope of work development.

  • Review and communicate project reports, budgets, forecasts, and progress updates.

  • Coordinate with engineering teams to meet project deliverable schedules.

  • Manage contract administration, including RFIs, submittals, change management, and closeout.

  • Oversee invoicing processes for contracts and subcontractors.

  • Conduct safety, quality, financial, and progress audits as needed.

  • Lead site mobilization/demobilization, material management, and equipment utilization.

  • Mentor and train junior team members, coordinators, and interns.

  • Foster strong relationships with community, building trades, and project stakeholders.

  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, labor, and legal requirements.

Requirements

  • Must be able to work half the week in Lexington, KY and half the week in Louisville, KY.

  • Candidates based in Chicago, IL may be considered if willing to travel at least one week per month.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction, Construction Management, Engineering, or related field and at least 7 years of project management experience in the construction industry.

    • Equivalent relevant experience may substitute for degree.

  • Proven experience in the Transmission & Distribution (T&D) field is required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access).

  • Experience with document control, cost control, scheduling, and project management software preferred.

  • Strong communication, leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Familiarity with GAAP principles.

  • Must meet company driving requirements.

  • Industry experience in aviation, commercial, energy, government, manufacturing, oil & gas, process, transportation, or water is a plus.
