Construction Scheduler (Transportation & Infrastructure)Position Summary
Vertex Engineering is seeking an experienced Construction Scheduler to support transportation, transit, infrastructure, utility, and public works projects throughout New York and New Jersey.
The Construction Scheduler will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules to support planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting activities. The successful candidate will work closely with project managers, resident engineers, contractors, designers, and stakeholders to identify schedule risks, monitor progress, and support successful project delivery.
This position may support projects for agencies including MTA, NJ TRANSIT, PANYNJ, Amtrak, NYSDOT, NJDOT, and municipal clients.
Key ResponsibilitiesSchedule Development
- Develop baseline schedules, recovery schedules, and milestone schedules.
- Prepare detailed CPM schedules for design, procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and closeout activities.
- Establish project work breakdown structures (WBS) and schedule coding structures.
- Incorporate project phasing, access constraints, utility work, shutdowns, and stakeholder requirements into project schedules.
Schedule Monitoring & Analysis
- Monitor project progress against approved baseline schedules.
- Update schedules using contractor and field progress information.
- Analyze schedule performance and identify critical path activities.
- Evaluate schedule impacts, delays, acceleration opportunities, and recovery strategies.
- Track float consumption, milestone performance, and schedule variances.
Reporting
- Prepare weekly and monthly schedule reports.
- Develop schedule dashboards, graphics, and executive-level presentations.
- Communicate schedule status, risks, and mitigation strategies to project teams and stakeholders.
- Present schedule updates during project meetings.
Risk Management
- Identify schedule risks and constraints affecting project delivery.
- Support development of mitigation and recovery plans.
- Evaluate schedule impacts associated with changes, claims, and unforeseen conditions.
- Participate in risk workshops and project planning sessions.
Contract Administration Support
- Review contractor schedules for compliance with contract requirements.
- Evaluate schedule submissions, time extension requests, and delay analyses.
- Support change order evaluations and schedule impact assessments.
- Assist project teams with claims analysis and schedule documentation.
Stakeholder Coordination
- Coordinate with project managers, resident engineers, inspectors, contractors, designers, and owner representatives.
- Support integrated project planning efforts.
- Participate in project status meetings and planning workshops.
- Assist with development of master program schedules across multiple projects.
QualificationsEducation
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, Architecture, or related field preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of construction scheduling experience.
- Experience preparing and maintaining CPM schedules on transportation, transit, rail, station, bridge, roadway, utility, or infrastructure projects preferred.
- Experience supporting public agency projects preferred.
- Experience with design-build, progressive design-build, or construction management projects is highly desirable.
Software Requirements
Proficiency in one or more of the following:
- Primavera P6 (Preferred)
- Microsoft Project
- Oracle Primavera Cloud
- Deltek Acumen
- Power BI
- Microsoft Excel
Certifications
One or more of the following preferred:
- PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI-SP)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Certified Scheduling Technician (AACE)
- Planning & Scheduling Professional (PSP)
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety
Knowledge and Skills
- Strong understanding of CPM scheduling methodologies.
- Ability to develop, update, and analyze complex project schedules.
- Experience with critical path, float analysis, earned value, and schedule forecasting.
- Knowledge of construction sequencing and project delivery methods.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to present schedule information to technical and executive audiences.

Compensation
Compensation commensurate with experience, certifications, project complexity, and assignment requirements.
Typical compensation ranges:
- Scheduler: $90,000–$125,000 annually
- Senior Scheduler: $125,000–$165,000 annually
- Contract Assignments: $45–$80 per hour
